<p>Based on this statement it sounds as if you did not do the hurricane relief work while you were off. If you are asking if it is unusual for students to do a pg year, then the answer is no as some students do this before coming to college. The school will want to know how you did spend your time since graduating h.s.</p>

<p>Maybe I wasn’t clear enough, it was late and I was lazy.</p>
<p>I graduated last spring from high school, and I am currently doing hurricane relief in Louisiana–I will be here until next July. I knew this was the path I wanted to pursue as early as last fall, right after the disaster…so I didn’t apply to colleges I applied to nonprofits in LA.</p>

<p>Sounds like exciting and rewarding work. As you know Dartmouth is big on good deed doing and it should be an interesting topic for your essay if you chose to write about it.</p>
