Graduating High School with a General Studies (A.S.)

Does this benefit me or hurt me, there is an option at my local community college that allows IB and AP classes to go towards a General Studies degree at the community college. I am a junior and have taken numerous AP and IB courses so I am interested in doing this. How will this look to colleges like Georgetown, Dartmouth, Brown, or the other high echelon schools? Thanks in advance!

It does neither. Your transcript will state your grades and the rigor of your classes. It looks like you’ll have good rigor. Keep the grades up.

Colleges don’t care if you have an associates degree…they care what course you took, the rigor of them and the grades you got. If you get an associates degree (2 year degree), I would look at your state school so you can graduate earlier (not pay for as many semesters).

As @bopper points out, the AS can mean that you enter some places with junior status and/or with all of your general education requirements fulfilled. This can make it possible to graduate in two years if you pick the right major. If graduating quickly isn’t important to you, having the gen eds covered can mean you have more time to take classes that interest you, double major, etc. You will need to investigate each college/university on your list to find out how they will handle your AP and IB exam results, and what they would make of the AS degree.
