I grew up in a family superstitious about Friday the 13th. My dad, in retirement, even refused to leave the house on any 13th, not just Friday. He died earlier this year (not on a 13th!), but I couldn’t even bear to tell him my son’s graduation would be on Friday the 13th, and am glad he was spared of that knowledge. But now, I am getting superstitious myself! Anyone else here with an upcoming 5/13 graduation? Please tell me I am nuts!
Won’t tell you that, but will tell you Fri the 13th has been a great day for me since I was in elementary school. Many great things, including meeting my DH, happened on Fri the 13th. Enjoy and congrats!
I totaled two cars…both on June 13…13 years apart. I have considered staying home on June 13 ever since!
S2 is taking the GRE next Fri. Obviously, he’s not superstitious since he could’ve scheduled it for almost any other day.
Unless you’re a Templar, you don’t need to worry about Friday the 13th.
I got engaged on the Ides of March, went looking for my wedding dress on Halloween (had the store to myself), and the day before our wedding was a Friday the 13th. Not being Templars, Julius Caesar, or black cats, we were fine.
My fabulous daughter - born on Friday the 13th
My fabulous son - born on the Ides of March
My dad is retiring after 52 years as a professor at UT-Austin. His retirement dinner, at which I am speaking, is on Friday the 13th.
Thanks everyone - I feel better!
Yes, my youngest son’s graduation is Friday the 13th, and we feel…joyous! One reason might be that oldest son went to Colgate, and all Friday the 13ths are “Colgate Day” because 13 is a number associated with their founding. So Friday the 13 became lucky.
My ‘boy next door’ was born of Friday the 13th and is called Lucky.
Our ceremony to become members of the HI state bar was purposely held on a Friday the 13th because the Chief Jusrice said he wanted people to realize it’s a GREAT day and NOT one to dread.
I’m fairly neutral about that date. I will be meeting a new doc on that date and have high hopes for a great appointment.
I have never had anything bad happen to me on a Friday, the 13th and to me it’s just another day that freaks some folks out.
I’ve noticed some buildings don’t have a 13th floor and some restaurants don’t have a 13th table–they skip from 12 to 14. I guess there are enough superstitious folk around that businesses don’t want to potentially upset customers?
D’s graduation from her masters program is this Friday. Hoping the weather forecast plays out so that we have a dry day and start the ceremony on Alumni Lawn. This will be my 4th graduation at Vandy and we’ve only been on the lawn once previously. I’m due for a little luck there:)
Good luck to all the Friday grads and their families!
Just got home from graduation about an hour ago. What a beautiful day in Nashville! It was amazing, but I am worn out from 4 1/2 hours of ceremonies. Would love to pack it in early, but my niece is graduating from hs tonight, so graduation #2 coming up shortly. My birthday is on the 13th, so I was never worried about it being a bad luck day:)
