Forever Young is actually Dylan. I bet you cant guess my favorite cover. [Forever Young - Eddie Vedder - Water on The Road - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)
There are several Mackelmore songs that would be fun.
And We Danced & Can’t Hold Us come to mind.

These are the days - Billy Joel
Three Little Birds - Bob Marley
100 Years - Five for Fighting
Wide Open Spaces - Dixie Chicks - for sure!
We May NEver Pass this way again - Seals & Crofts (corny, but fits)

Seals & Croft was what they played at MY high school senior awards assembly!

Just got done with my son’s slideshow for his graduation party- songs are:
- Yesterday (The Beatles)
- Two Steps Behind (Def Leppard)
- Don’t You Forget About Me (Simple Minds)
- Time of Your Life (Green Day)

It’s a real tear jerker!

Other ideas
- These are Days (10,000 maniacs)
- We are the Champions (Queen)
- School’s out for Summer (Alice Cooper- a bit of a different tune compared to many others)
- Beautiful Day (U2)
- Let the Good Times Roll (The Cars)

^^^exactly what I said to myself!!

The DJ at D1’s Sweet 16 played Sweet Caroline, and for some reason it became the theme song for her friends (maybe as a joke). I used it for her senior pictures.

I’ll Fly Away, Allison Krause
Everybody’s Changing, Keane

and my personal favorite, but it is a tear jerker:

The One Who Knows, Dar Williams

Thank you everyone! This is a HUGE help. Would love to hear some more suggestions too

Bumping…any more suggestions?

Forever Young…and I love some of the suggested songs. and I just that being suggested

Child of Mine by Bill Staines for a sappy folk song.

Pink Floyd.

And “She Blinded Me with Science.”

surfcity refers to “there are the days” by Billy Joel, I think it’s actually called “I’ve loved these days”…which is an awesome song.

How about “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong?
Or “How Far We’ve Come” by Matchbox 20?
Or “No Such Thing” by John Mayer?

93 Million Miles - Jason Mraz
Life in Color - One Republic

Actually I don’t know which song I meant I think I was quoting “These Are The TImes We Remember” which has some great lines, but it is more of a love song if you read the verses closely, but the chorus is great.

“I’ve Loved these Days” is a fabulous song, but just FYI there is reference to cocaine in it, if that makes it off limits to anyone :D

It’s funny, after I made that comment, the song got stuck in my head, the rest of the lyrics came back to me and I realized the same thing  Yeah-whoops, not appropriate. Mea culpa!

Thank you ALL!

After much thought, I’ve narrowed it down a bit:

Either Child of Mine (Carole King) or You Are So Beautiful (Joe Cocker)

What a Wonderful World israel kamakawiwo’ole arrangement
The first dance at our wedding was to Louis Armstrongs version…so this is just the right twist to make a perfect “full circle” moment for my daughter

Finally: Forever Young (Harry Belafonte version–its happy and awesome), My Way (Sinatra as my daughter is a huge Sinatra fan) OR Sail Away (Styx)

We’re going to let our nephew, who is making the slideshow for us choose the the 1st and 3rd songs. Whatever he picks, I won’t be disappointed, and I look forward to the surprise.

Thank you so much for your help. I listened to every song several times, many of them I loved, but the lyrics just didn’t fit my daughter. I’m sure this thread will help lots of parents find just the right choices though.

The music is going to be much sappier than I’d intended, but let’s face it: this is for a 17 year old girl and she is all about sap. She’ll love it.

scubasue–if you can’t decide between the songs you listed in 1 & 3, you can use parts of each. I think I mentioned up-thread that many songs have long intros that can be edited out and also become repetitive at or about the 2.30 mark. I finished the grad slideshow this w/e and used nine songs for 28 minutes. (That was way too long of a slideshow.) Have also used nine songs for a 15 min show, but that was a HS sport where the music matched the photos and changed with each event.

I have used Alphaville’s version of Forever Young, Sinatra’s My Way and that same version of What a Wonderful World on different slideshows throughout the years. They are all lovely songs. Also Paul Anka’s Times of Your Life, but all of these have been for either 50th anniversary or wakes.

Try Dropbox if you are looking for an easy way to share the slideshow with long distance relatives. So much easier than burning discs, especially now that Apple has discontinued iDVD. Good luck!

“Forever Young (Harry Belafonte version–its happy and awesome)”

It IS, isn’t it? You should hear him sing it live. My kids and their cousins grew up knowing that in my mother’s car, the only music that worked on the tape deck was Harry’s. It’s the song I’m putting in my D’s photo book for her 8th grade promotion gift.
