Graffiti Tunnels

What are they?

I think you might be talking about the graffiti staircases, which are in Mandeville (arts building located in Muir): [Google Image Result for http://farm1.static.■■■■■■■■■■/113/264378192_526f32935d.jpg?v=0](http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://farm1.static.■■■■■■■■■■/113/264378192_526f32935d.jpg%3Fv%3D0&imgrefurl=http://■■■■■■■■■■/photos/77083444%40N00/264378192&usg=__Z_RwFpbBWpQA_Rar4kULEB8Pc88=&h=375&w=500&sz=165&hl=en&start=0&zoom=0&tbnid=TGdvHGXeEUdW8M:&tbnh=98&tbnw=130&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dgraffiti%2Bstaircases%2Bucsd%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Den%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D637%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=196&vpy=139&dur=590&hovh=98&hovw=130&tx=85&ty=42&ei=wohyTMT2PJSCsQOW-rmFCw&oei=wohyTMT2PJSCsQOW-rmFCw&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=17&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0)
Basically four floors of that ^

The tunnels are really hard to access (and illegal) but I think the Koala staff went in there once, hahaha. UCSD was built during the Cold War so I think it was a bomb shelter OR a hiding place for faculty in case students went all Berkeley-esque on their asses. These are just some of the many rumors I’ve heard. I wouldn’t ever go down there, I think you can get trapped :/

columbia’s are much easier to access - so much that we even took a prospective student along. :)

Hahaha astrina haven’t you been in UCSD’s tunnels? I swear I remember you saying you had one time

My friends from High School (I live in Chula Vista) seem to go there and have photoshoots all the time. Can’t believe it’s illegal.

there’s a portion of the tunnels that’s public access in the basement of urey, but nothing spectacular there – just steam hissing around, no graffiti.

i’ve been in the mandeville ones a few times. just psychedelic paintings and a permanent odor of weed.
