Grammar and Spelling for Elite Students Rant

Numerous times on the forums I have seen threads with students applying to elite colleges such as Ivy League schools, yet they fail to use proper grammar and spelling. It makes me wonder if they are truly capable of attending such prestigious universities. Does this bother anyone else? I understand if it is a simple mistake from typing too quickly, but if you have time to put a comma in, you should be able to capitalize “I”. Maybe it is just me, but I cannot take them seriously.

If they can’t do well on the SAT/ACT, including the sections that test English grammar, top schools will reject them. So I don’t worry about it.
