Hi guys. I have a question on grammar, hence the title.

Is this sentence acceptable?

In this lab, the concept of overfishing and sustainable yield is explored.

Or should it be:

In this lab, the concepts of overfishing and sustainable yield are explored.

Thanks in advance :)!

‘are’ explored.

The subject of the sentence is ‘concepts’ thus the verb agreement is ‘are’.

I would do the second one.

80/80 MC subscore

EDIT: There’s subject/verb agreement in each, but the question is whether it should be concept or concepts given the object of the preposition.

There’s nothing wrong with the second sentence.

I second that it is the second choice.

There is nothing wrong with either sentence, but it sounds like the second one is closer to what you want. The sentence is still a little wonky though. Instead of relating the two things with a simple “and,” you might want to give the impression that one affects the other.

^My thoughts exactly. The subject in each sentence is paired up with the correct verb. In any case, the second one makes more sense because I’m talking about two individual concepts.
