Grammar question-official practice test 2011-2012

For question 18 in the official 2011-2012 practice test, I was confused about the answer.

Until recently, most people (entering) (A) politics (feel) (B) that loss of privacy was (a fair price) (C) to pay (for) (D) the chance to participate in policy making. (No error) (E)

The answer key said that the answer was B, (feel) but I wasn’t sure why. Isn’t “most people” plural, so feel should be right?

Could someone please explain this to me. It would be much appreciated!

I think it is the verb tense, not the singular/plural. Should be “felt” not feel to correspond with "was a fair’’.

The reason (B) feel is wrong: It should read Until recently most people felt … You need a past tense verb after “Until recently” Think of it this way: Until recently I ran outdoors; NOW (in contrast to until recently) I run indoors on a treadmill. Now is followed by the present tense.
