Grammar question

The Mount Isa mine complex is one of the most highly merchanized in the world, plus being the largest single industrial enterprise in Queensland.

The error is “plus being”… I couldn’t get it… please explain me…

thanks in advance!

“plus being” sounds really awkward when you read it outloud even out of context. There should be a conjunction there. It should be corrected to something like this:

1) The Mount Isa mine complex is one of the most highly merchandized in the world in addition to being the largest single industrial enterprise in Queensland.

2) The Mount Isa mine complex is one of the most highly merchandized in the world and is the largest single industrial enterprise in Queensland.

You don’t usually use “plus” in the middle of a sentence. It usually starts off a sentence like:

“I can’t go to the baseball game today because I have a lot of homework. Plus, I don’t have a ride.”

“Plus” can’t mean “and” on the SAT-1, and “being” is wrong 90% of the time.
