<p>Can anyone please tell me 1 is correct or 2? Difference is on the second part of each sentence.( Is ‘had’ needed or not?) Thanks</p>

<p>1) I feel obliged to go there and help save lives because someone had selflessly saved my father’s life too when he had needed blood
2) I feel obliged to go there and help save lives because someone had selflessly saved my father’s life too when he needed blood.</p>
