^ yes her brother the brain surgeon made a Y turn on a highway and stopped, straddling the center line, to look at his phone. Dumb and dumber, it’s all been downhill since Izzie cut Denny Duquette’s LVAD wire.
@bookworm, I’m sorry the episode hit so close to home. I cannot fathom the anger I would feel had been in your situation. My father was misdiagnosed with pancreatic cancer when he really had non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which is generally less dire. Anyhow, his doctors didn’t treat him for months, saying there was nothing they could do…until they realized what he did have was treatable (and possibly curable) with chemo, but by then the cancer had spread a lot more. I never met the doctor, however, as my parents lived several states away.
Anyhow, after the completely unbelievable plot twist of killing Derek off, I thought that Grey’s and I would finally part ways. But my D (who left for freshman year in August) used to watch with me, so I’m still watching this season for old time’s sake – and I thought the dinner party episode was really well done, Amelia notwithstanding.
Bar allot,
And now we will. Both be watching to see how Meredith handles the intrusion of that MD who didn’t save Derek. My IRL experience lasted less than a minute, Meredith is going to be handling this gal for quite some while.
@bookworm I am sorry for your situation.
With regard to the show, I’m not sure why everyone is blaming this resident for Derek’s death. If I recall correctly, she had the right idea - chest injury/CT scan- but was overruled by her attending. That’s where the anger should be placed?
@Snowdog, it’s because she didn’t push hard enough. What I gleaned from it.
I think that the theme will be that Meredith knows she is not a horrid doc/person and does not want her to go forward and have this happen to someone else. As Meredith is a survivor she will throw herself into this training–she will be harsh and ruthless in the beginning. It will help her heal.
I wonder if they will turn this into female workers not speaking up enough issue. As I recall, there was a male resident with Penny with Derek who pushed for not doing CT. If she wasn’t so polite and gave up on CT, Derek might be alive.
IIRC the man in question was her superior and older, not a fellow resident. Then, she could not get the neuro guy on call to come into the hospital quickly. Some random person wasn’t worth interrupting whatever he was doing. They didn’t realize who it was they were giving inferior care to. Penny was the only one who was fighting for him.
Wow bookworm, I’m sorry you had that experience.
I think the issue with the intern is that she seemed poorly trained and she didn’t handle things well after Derek’s death. More than what happened at the hospital, is her blubbering to Meredith outside of the hospital. I think Meredith will become her mentor. I think she accepted her because she recognizes she was poorly trained and hadn’t found her voice yet.
I also thought I was done after Derek’s death. GA has limped on its last leg for several seasons for me. It wasn’t until the Chief’s daughter was introduced did it begin to pick back up for me. Add me to the Amelia is annoying and whiny club.
At least they have finally allowed them to almost act their age.
