Helping D prepare for the GRE’s. The GRE cell phone policy is that any student who brings a cell phone into the testing center will be asked to leave.

D will be taking a taxi to the testing site. How is she supposed to call for a cab ride back to campus if she can’t even bring her phone?

This policy works if you can lock your phone in your car, but not for everyone else.

I’d call the testing site. If there are no lockers, they may allow you to label your phone and leave OFF it with the proctor until after the test. The site may also know of the availability of telephones available to call a cab.

I imagine there is some provision. D didn’t have a car & she would need a bag as she either took the bus or rode her bike I imagine when she took the GREs- I really don’t know.
But she is in grad school now- so it must have been OK!

One more thought–your D could arrange for a taxi to drop her off & pick her up at set times (the duration of the test is pretty standard). Many taxis are used to such protocols and happy to wait for the fare at the same location as where they dropped off, especially on a slow day.

my testing center also had a locker… they even made me leave my watch in it, which I didn’t really like because I always wear a watch 24/7, so it felt weird.

Find a test center with lockers. You literally cannot take ANYTHING into the exam unless they tell you explicitly it is ok (which is basically only what you are wearing). Wallet and money must be left outside, and that is an even bigger problem than cell phone especially if taking a cab, and certainly you want to put those in a locker.
