I’m a biomedical engineering major that’s undecided on whether or not to take the GRE or FE first. The thing is I think I’m going to hold off on graduate school and see if I can land an industry job first. How big of a role does the FE play in acquiring jobs?

What’s the better path for a BME?

In the general case, you should take both while still in college and the material is fresh. The GRE does have some shelf life if you apply to graduate school within a few years, however, neither GRE nor FE make a difference to most employers. The FE is a prerequisite for professional engineering licenses, and the people who put that off tend to regret it later if they need to obtain a PE license.

BME is not my field. I have the impression that PE licenses are not important in that field. If true, you wouldn’t worry about the FE/PE path.
