Ooh boy.

Ok, first up, you need to know which term you are going to enroll for. I doubt you will make the Fall 2012 deadlines. Also, you need to decide what you’re going to specialise in.

GRE Prep materials and guidelines can be obtained by some careful searching.

Shortlisting universities can be done once you have your scores in hand.

i am a sophomore now so wont be trying till fall of 2013, i would be doing ms in computer sciences .i will find the study material what i really want to know is what else should i do to get an admission i mean besides gre what other things are to be taken care off?

In broad generalities.
- Narrow your interests a bit. Pick a few topics that really interest you in your field.
- Read the academic papers on these topics. Check which schools publish in your areas of interest.
- Go to the school websites and collect their admission requirements.
- Study for the specific tests required. GRE General, Specific, any English language test etc. You can do better on these tests by studying for them using existing guides or prep classes.
- Line up recommendations. Once you know which schools interest you, see if you know someone, or can get to know someone whose an alumni at the school. Otherwise try to get the best references possible lined up (employers, teachers etc., typically three are needed).
- Write out for yourself the reason why you want to study in your chosen field. Work on it. Get it checked over. When it’s perfect, get it checked again.
- Finish your current education with the highest scores you can attain.
- Cross your fingers (good luck).
