Are the reading and writing sections of the GRE very similar to the content on the AP Exams for English Literature/Language and Calculus?

No, definitely not very similar, although there are some commonalities.

I would say that AP English Literature/Language questions are harder than GRE reading, though that might just be me.

For GRE writing, there are two prompts: analysis and issue. In the analysis, you do your best to rip an argument to pieces (don’t worry; the argument is really bad and this should be quite easy). This is quite different from the AP English rhetorical analysis.

In the issue, you have a prompt that you need to respond to with an argument, while considering counterarguments. I suppose this would be somewhat similar to one of the AP English essays, but the standard of writing expected is quite different, at least in my opinion (lower on the GRE). Look at the sample essays posted on the ets/gre website to get an idea.
