Great Combo School

I’m a senior and I’ve applied to too many colleges to keep track of, but none of them really have what I’m looking for. I want to be challenged academically and have a super fun social life. Right now I really am focusing on the social sciences as I want to continue to law school after college, so I’m thinking of a degree in political science or sociology (possibly english) Also, I really love musical theatre, so I’m trying to find a school that has a great musical theatre department and a reputable social sciences department with good law school placement. Any suggestions?

You might want to take a gander at Northwestern

Michigan of course.

You really can’t study Musical Theatre and also be challenged academically in the social sciences to prepare for law school. MT will take virtually all your hours outside of a core curriculum. NWern has a MT minor that theatre majors and music performance majors can audition into after their first or second year - you could major in theatre there since it’s a BA program (not a BFA), but music performance would be as all-encompassing as MT. But of course, you could participate in musical theatre at many schools without majoring or minoring in it. As far as academic challenge + social life, the Fiske Guide lists only Dartmouth as getting five out of five stars for both academics and social. Brown, Berkeley, Cornell, Duke, Stanford, and U.Va. get five for academics and four for social. Georgetown, Oberlin, Texas, and Wisconsin get 4 1/2 for academics and four for social.

Northwestern has highly ranked social sciences departments. Music theatre has always been one of its strongest assets.

Michigan is in the top ten for MT, Poly Sci, and Sociology.
