Great Courses (the Thinking Company) favorites

I just recently found out that my library through Hoopla has “binge passes” for several services including “Great Courses” from the Thinking Company for free! But there are a LOT. Any favorites or particular professors you love to listen to?

Are there other services free through the library that are your favorite way to access materials?

Our main library has a great maker space. Last time I visited, poster-sized prints cost about $2 per foot (24" wide); color photo prints (8 1/2 x 11 or smaller) for about $.25; sewing machines, laser printers, button makers, VHS (or slide) conversions to DVD, and more.

I also use the library online to access reviews through Consumer Reports, or read occasional articles on journals I do not subscribe to on a regular basis. We no longer buy enough to justify a full CR subscription. You can access genealogy sources while physically at the library (not online), but I have not used those services.

I don’t know how widespread this program is, but public libraries here have a program called Discover and Go. Through this program, you can use your library card to access free passes to various local museums and other attractions. Many people are totally unaware of this, but d and I got free passes to the California Academy of Sciences last week that saved us over $100. They have free tickets to almost all of the major museums here - SF Museum of Modern Art, Asian Art Museum, the DeYoung, Legion of Honor, Oakland Museum of California, etc. It’s such a great program.

I’m halfway thru watching the Teaching Company release “Games People Play: Game Theory in Life, Business and Beyond.” It’s not math-intense and is very interesting in the topics covered. The professor has a nice sense of humor and is a skilled presenter – the kind of prof that back in college you’d tell your friends “you have to take a class from him, any class.”
