I just heard great news from one of the Ivy Schools today. They gave us a great package. I can’t believe it because Johns Hopkins gave us some money, but we would still have to pay 38,000 out of pocket. I was racking my brains out trying to figure out how to get that without a PLUS loan.
I just finally accepted the fact that I’d have to do it this year and try and figure out something better for next year.
But the Ivy school came through. Our contribution is going to be about 10,000. What a difference.
I did write a letter even before they sent the decision explaining my situation, remarried with no child support. Their father also wrote a letter stating his adverse health and income. We provided some supporting documents.
I can only think that’s what did it. But who knows. It’s seems it’s about as random as even getting into one of the Ivies.
I keep telling my kids, always prepare for the worst , but hope for the best.
So if you think you really merit more financial need, say something.
