I am in the process of trying to get my French back to the bilingual level. I would like a recommendation on a book that covers French grammar. At one time in my life I was completely fluent in French. However, I haven’t touched a French grammar book in over 30 years and really haven’t spoken French on a regular basis in over 20 years. I can still read, understand and speak French, but would like to review all the French grammar rules (especially for written French). Any suggestions?
Years ago I had a book called Le Cours Superieur (I may be spelling it wrong after all these years). I bought it for my son as well when he took French. It was just a basic, straightforward grammar book but well laid out.
The best is by Grevisse but this one is easier to purchase.

Stay away from American editions or US college books.

I might relearn this and English grammar again. I don’t seem to have the brain to deal with rules very well. Something to look forward to when I retire. That’s said my brother and sister were both fluent in French, they went to French schools, but when one of my brother’s kids brought home a friend and her parent, who were French, my brother completely messed up a simple protocol or grammar that the French parent switched immediately to English. Needless to say, he was slightly embarrassed.
