Great idea for an essay... but is it pushing the limit?

<p>Well, a college essay to me has to fulfill the following requirements:</p>

<p>1) It is about me and honestly speaks to who I am.
2) It is creative and/or witty and/or clever and/or not boring.
3) It shows what I can contribute to the college/university.</p>

<p>Well I read up some ideas on the internet and basically one idea was to write a chapter of my biography (was this UPenn’s? can’t remember) or autobiography. So I was going to write like chapter 32, when I’ve graduated and have just begun to succeed in my endeavors. This has plenty of room to get creative, humorous, and tell what kind of person I am both in the writing and through the writing. Of course I can’t be entirely honest with it, but it’s only the “future” part that I’ll experiment with and I could certainly have flashbacks. I am almost done with it actually and I believe it is the best out of the five essays I have written so far.</p>

<p>But I still have two questions.</p>

<p>1) To what extent would this kind of thing be pushing the limit? Are the three requirements above enough, or should an essay just follow the basic “Who are you, describe an important experience or person, write about one of your traits, what fictional character influenced you, etc.” format?</p>

<p>2) Any suggestions, tips, etc.? </p>

<h1>1 sugestion: have it critiqued by an adult who is savvy to the college admit process.</h1>

<p>Often, what a hs senior thinks is witty, a new angle, clever, etc, doesn’t come across that way to an adcom. Perhaps you’ve written something great- but get a solid set of opinions- and NOT from hs friends or seniors on a forum. Good luck.</p>
