"Great" UW GPA cutoff?

Strictly speaking, if you judged people by only their unweighted GPA, what would be the lowest you could have and still have a great GPA? Just looking for a simple answer. I don’t need explanations or arguments against the importance of this.

That would depend on what you considered great – and of course, everyone has a different opinion of what a great GPA is. Personally, I think 3.8+ is a great UW GPA.

Depends on what scale it’s on and how much grade inflation the school has. 3.8 on a 4.0 scale would be good almost anywhere.

3.75+

3.9+ out of 4.0. But I’m pretty sure our school has grade inflation, basically top 50% of sophomore class has this.

3.8 I’d say…depending on what classes they are taking of course.

3.7+, but i’m guessing it depends on the school you attend and courses.

3.9+ because of the rampant grade inflation and bump ups by teachers.

4.0

I hate 4.0 scales. There are too many to judge from. On a 100% scale, id say that 90 is the cutoff for UW when taking the most demanding schedule. If you are taking the most easy schedule available, 95 is probably the cutoff

I’m talking about unweighted. Nothing can get over 4.0. Basically you said UW cutoff is 3.6 while for easier classes it’s 3.8.

I know that. But advanced courses are factored into unweighted GPAs. They just aren’t given any extra weight. I didn’t basically say that. On the College Board GPA scale, 3.6 is less than 90 on a 100% scale. So I prefer the 100% scale because they are rather self explanatory

3.8 is typically considered the cutoff for a good UW GPA where I’m from.

A GPA on a 4.0 scale cannot be directly converted to a GPA on a 100-point scale (or any other scale), and vice versa. You get different results depending on what the individual letter grades were. Unweighted GPA doesn’t have to be on a 4.0 scale. Unweighted just means advanced classes aren’t given extra weight.

I understand your first point, but for the second I was trying to clarify that it doesn’t matter that people have different 4.0 scales because it’s unweighted.

3.8+/3.9+

3.8, but honestly, I think it matters a lot which classes you’re taking. It wouldn’t be very great with standard classes, but with honors and AP it’s pretty good.

I hate the 4.0 scale too… At my school a 4.0= 100 so whenever I see CCers with 4.0s I always forget that their gpa just means straight A’s. As for the cutoff, I’d say a 94 but it really depends on the classes one takes.

The gpa scale where I live is not that generous. You need a 96 or above for a 4.0. So I’d have to go with 3.75 but considering your gpa is cumulative, that might be pushing it.

Depends on the school lol.
e.g. for mine a good gpa would be a 4.0 with APs–
around 25% of the school has straight a’s, and many of them are taking 1~4 aps, I kid you not.
