great way to spoil a crooks plans to steal

Not unless you specify “signature required.”

I read on a travel forum once where someone claimed to have seen a group laughing uproariously on a Paris metro. It seems they had taken a woman’s wallet and glued razors around the edges and then placed the wallet at the top of a purse, which the owner then placed on the seat beside her. It wasn’t long before some kid ran by and grabbed the wallet and ran out the door. The group then had a good laugh at his expense as he howled and cursed on the platform.

In the 1990s, my father-in-law told me of a bank robber in his town who realized he had been given a bag of “fake” money by the bank. So he threw all the money down a storm drain. The only thing was, the money wasn’t fake, it was just the first or second day of the “new” twenties which featured the extra-large picture of Jackson. Dumb thief.

A reminder from UPS on how to keep gifts a surprise (and leave the truck chasing thieves empty-handed):

"During this holiday season, help make certain your gift packages stay a surprise by having them delivered to a UPS Access Point™ location in your neighborhood. It’s easy and free!*

UPS® partners with local businesses that offer extended hours to make it easier for you to get your packages. The UPS Access Point network consists of over 8,000 U.S. locations, which allow you to pick up your packages when it fits your schedule. They include:

• The UPS Store® locations

• Designated neighborhood grocery stores
• Other local businesses"

I have successfully readdressed my packages to the local UPS store via their website in the past. No additional charges!

I live in a gated community with a 24 hour security guard. I think that greatly reduces our chances for theft, but I wouldn’t bet the farm on it though.

if something gets stolen suspect number 1 would be the security.
just like the TSA employees at the airport get arrested for stealing from passengers all the time .

Well, it’s never happened in three years, but like I said, I’m not going to bet my life on it. There are also houses being built in here, so lots of subs coming and going, lawn companies cutting grass, etc. People have guests come into the community, appliance repairmen, and on and on, so it’s certainly not fail safe.
