great way to spoil a crooks plans to steal

imagine the disappointment the crook feels when they open the package!

Two thumbs up!

Great idea for the Bag a Week posters.

I like it, but what if the thieves get mad and come back to do something dumb to your house?

If you have surveillance video I think it’s a neat idea (with the plan to help the police catch the perps).

I doubt they will be back… unless they are just some punks looking for trouble. Thieves interested in valuables most likely will not be back with a retaliatory act. Not a very productive use of their time to go back and risk being caught while there are many other housing developments that can be canvased for packages. Write it off as a business loss and move on, sort of.

^^true. I do love the idea of a box of rocks. :stuck_out_tongue:

I would put a GPS tracker in the box too, with a note saying “Merry Christmas, your location has been handed over to the police” B-)

When NYC had its garbage strike years ago, a guy solved his trash problem by wrapping his trash, placing it on his car’s back seat, and leaving the car unlocked. Each day, voila! No more garbage.

maybe it is a way to get rid of unwanted fruitcake

My stepsister had her place robbed last Christmas, they opened everything under the tree and trashed everything they didn’t want, took their groceries, and even went through the clothes drawers of my niece (10 at the time) and took her pajamas, shirts, jeans and jackets. Hard to believe how disgusting people can be.

Seems like a good idea, but I thought the typical package thief MO was to tail a UPS (or Fedex) truck through a neighborhood from a distance and pick off the deliveries shortly after they are made.

^ the cops in our neighborhood just caught 4 thieves following the UPS truck. They happened to have a carload of unopened boxes (none of them addressed to the thieves).

I saw a video last year of a ups or fedex driver stealing packages from the other company.
don’t these folks know in 2014-15 a lot of people have cameras on the front door.

Seems like a great way for dog owners to dispose of their dogs’ waste…

From now on, thieves will be using shake and smell test prior to taking off with any packages…

ucbalumnus–you will probably get arrested for spreading infectious disease or sued for mental anguish by the crooks.

“ucbalumnus–you will probably get arrested for spreading infectious disease or sued for mental anguish by the crooks”

LOL. Sounds like a perfect case for Judge Judy. Imagine the plaintiff being questioned about how she or he got a hold of the box of “hazardous waste” and the severity of the emotional distress it caused.

This sounds suspiciously similar to that green furry guy dressed like Santa, with a heart 3 sizes too small.

But I’m sorry for your stepsister. That’s terrible, and does reinforce how despicable a certain segment of our society is.

My next-door neighbor had a package stolen from her front porch this week. She called me to ask if I would check my security cam video and see if I could see anything. Sure enough, the UPS truck pulled up in front of her house and a car was following it. He went around the block and cruised past her house after the UPS guy left, then circled around the block one more time and then pulled right into her driveway. The car sat in the driveway for about 30 seconds, probably waiting to see if anyone peeked out the front window or came to the door. Then the passenger jumped out, grabbed the box (it was a Keurig, a gift from her MIL), got back into the car and they peeled out of there. Unfortunately, it was too far away for me to get a tag number or even the make/model of the car.

The next day when I got a delivery from UPS I mentioned the incident to the driver. He said that they’re instructed to be especially alert for any cars that seem to be following them. It has become a HUGE problem around here. People just think they’re entitled to other people’s stuff. X(

This woman was caught stealing packages off a porch. She is a police officer’s wife.

Has UPS changed it policy? It’s my experience that they will not leave packages if no one answers the door. This recently happened to me when I didn’t realize that I mistakenly used my home address for a package that should have been delivered to my office.
