I haven’t been to GWL for years, but it used to be you could get there at 1 the day of arrival and stay as long as you want on check-out day. I don’t know how old your kids are, but mine grew out of GWL by middle-school.

Pierce’s is great.

ugh… I am in that boat too.

Yes, Pierce’s is great and have been there many times. Not sure I would characterize it as a dive though (wouldn’t want that to potentially keep anyone away). It is large, clean, bright, and very popular. Great barbecue, french fries. Love the root beer.

I agree with 1214mom about age range for GWL. From what I saw, it seems to attract families with younger kids and those with younger kids would probably have the most fun there.

Agree, GWL is for very young children.
And, yes, some summer days in Virginia can get very hot.
That’s what the water in W/C is for. ;)

Have also been to B/G on very hot days.
Drink plenty of liquids and take a nice cool shower back at the hotel.

Not sure what is your deal, but those “technically free” room coupons are there for a reason. You will find out when you get there.

Artlover, you’re right- it’s not really “free”. H and I are going in two weeks to listen to a 90 minute pitch for “travelbuy”. When we get finished with the pressure sell, then they will give us a three day/ two night voucher for GWL and a $100 gift card for use in a restaurant.

D has always wanted to go to GWL and while she is a little older (in HS), she is excited about going. Plus with our Fridays being free this summer, its a chance to get away from home without it costing too much.

Thank you everyone for the advice- we’ll definitely check our Pierce’s.

GWL will be a nice getaway and nice your daughter is excited!

Pierce’s is definitely nothing fancy. You order at the counter . No alcohol. Just a local place that has been popular for years.

Have fun!
