Greatest sports game/match ever?

Ok so I just watched that entire Federer vs. Roddick match, and I would have to put it in my top 10 all time greatest games/matches…

However, I still think that Nadal vs. Federer was better last year (this year I felt it that the points were basically won on the serves but last year, it was blow for blow on every shot), but I would still say that the greatest all time was Mets vs. Red Sox game 6 WS, considering the Mets were down to their last out and down by 2 runs…and then the impossible happened (people forget that it was more than just Buckner that lost the game for the Red Sox).

One of the greatest matches I’ve watched this year was the quarter-final clash between Chelsea and Liverpool. Liverpool needed to beat Chelsea by two goals, since they lost 1-3 at Stanford Bridge a week before. They jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but Chelsea stormed back with goals from Alex and Drogba to tie it up. Then in the 76th minute, Frank Lampard scored, giving Chelsea the lead. It seemed like most of my Liverpool-fan friends gave up hope on a tie let-alone a win. But, Lucas scored for Liverpool in the 81st, and Kuyt gave them a one goal lead. Now, all the Liverpool fans I know where going crazy, just one more goal to tie it up and send it to penalties. Unfortunately, the biggest blow of the match came in the 89th minute, when Lampard sent a soaring goal in the back of Liverpool’s net to even the tally at 4-4 a piece. Obviously, this was a deflating game for Liverpool fans, but it was so fun to watch and I was at the edge of my seat most of the second half. Certainly one I will remember.

Oh and obviously I did not watch the 86 World Series as I was not alive, but I’ve seen it on ESPN Classic.

The greatest one that I have ever seen was the one between England and the Netherlands in the Semifinals of the UEFA U-21 Championship a couple years back.

I try to avoid the 86 World Series as much as I can. But, another great game that I will always remember would be Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS against the Yankees. I have the whole Red Sox 2004 Postseason DVD, which I sometimes watch now just to remember how great of a comeback it was!

fed v. nadal wimbledon 2008. G.O.A.T. in tennis

I can’t say rod vs. fed, wimbledon 2009 is the G.O.A.T-it was too much of a serving clinic show.

^Yeah, very few games where the serve was even challenged. I’d say Murray-Wawrinka was the match of the tournament.

If you ignore importance, there was a game a few years ago where the Dodgers hit 4 HR’s in a row to tie the game in the ninth, then Garciaparra hit another home run to win it in the 10th.

^ Heaven not to be mean, But i see your going to UCLA. Since I know people who attend LMU and thought about going… I remember this game.

Nobody probably even watches softball, but UCLA has some of the biggest history in the sport. Loyola Marymount took on the Bruins in a regional game (post-season) and won. They were 0-20 in school history against UCLA. It was LMU’s second game of the day (they beat UC Santa Barbara earlier that day on a grandslam, 5-3 was the final score). The same girl who hit the grand slam hit a 3 run home run against UCLA, leading Loyola to a 4-2 victory against UCLA. It was the first time they ever won, and, UCLA had never lost that early in the NCAA tournament in softball history.

Doubt anyone even views the NCAA Softball tournament, but, it really was an amazing game to watch. I love rooting for the underdog and it was special. Cross-town rivals, the little Loyola school against prestigious UCLA.

I could have said some more popular game I’ve watched that was intense, but, this was the best.

Oh and to be recent too, USA vs. Brazil soccer was a pretty great game.

When did this happen? Was it the year after Enquist retired?

And since you brought up UCLA, I should also nominate the win over Missouri in the '95 tournament and the comeback against Adam Morrison and Gonzaga.

USC v Notre Dame…college football…a few seconds to go Matt tries to get to the touchdown but fumbles. But wait! it was on the one yard line. Next play USc runs a sneak for Lineart …he doesn’t make it on the first push, but then Reggie pushes him into the in zone. After that game I became a crazy USC football fan.

Also the Championship game, Texas v USC. Vince Young breaks like 5 tackles to run into the corner of the inzone and beat USC (heart breaking).

Mine would have to be a Liverpool v Chelsea game in the Champions League this year. Even though Liverpool didn’t score enough goals to make it to semi’s (they tied 4-4), it was an amazing game. I think I almost had 6 heart attacks in the last ten minutes.

EDIT: Yeah, Redsox2002, I absolutely LOVED that game! That and the Arsenal game too. (4-4)
Man Liverpool had some GOOD games this year, beating Real Madrid, beating Man Utd, and tieing Chelsea and Arsenal. =)

For the record, Young went into the endzone untouched.

Yeah that was a bizarre sequence. First Leinart fumbles out of bounds at the 2 but USC gets the ball at the one, then the coaches try to call a timeout they didn’t have but no penalty is called, then the time expires and Notre Dame runs onto the field, then they put time back on the clock, then Bush pushes Leinart but again no penalty is called.

I don’t watch too many sporting events but I do recall one that I still remember to this day. It was 2 years ago in March 2007 for soccer/futbol/football.

Real Madrid vs Barcelona. Final result: 3-3
Van Nistelrooy played an amazing game scoring two goals. Pass work was superb. Messi scored a hat trick. Never knew people could work the ball like that. Anybody remember this game?

I was most excited when the Netherlands beat the Dominican Republic for the seocnd time in the World Baseball Classic. It was amazing how the group of low minor leaguers was able to scratch together the two runs against Carlos Marmol.

"When did this happen? Was it the year after Enquist retired?

And since you brought up UCLA, I should also nominate the win over Missouri in the '95 tournament and the comeback against Adam Morrison and Gonzaga."

Yes, it was the first year of Perez. Enquist retired. Had she been there - LMU probably wouldn’t have won that game. She was a legend. UCLA’s softball program hasn’t been the same since she retired.

Here are the videos of the Day:
Game 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbI9liFjDZ0</a>
Game 2 (V. UCLA): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWSltwQzbNo</a></p>

UCLA Sports history is amazing still, though. There are numerous games I could list. One that comes to mind… UCLA upset USC in Football in 06 that let the Gators into the National Title game, in which they won! One of the biggest upsets in College Football.

True LiverpoolFC-YNWA, Liverpool had some tremendous games. At the end of the season, they were scoring like 3-4 goals a game! Real Madrid is going to have a nasty offense this upcoming season. I am worried if Kaka, Benzema, and Ronaldo will have the “Real Madrid” effect if you know what I mean.

Fed v Nadal 2008 was the best. Today was great, but the quality of last the last two wimby finals and even australian this year was better
