What’s the run down with the Greek life? Can anybody that’s a part of it tell elaborate?

There’s lots of opportunities to get involved with it on campus. Most fraternities/sororities push kids to drink & party a lot and so if you are into that, you will get what you are looking for. Just make sure you keep up your grades while you do it because there has been many kids that get kicked out of the school by not fitting in time to do the school work and then there are many others who scrape by and aren’t able to get a job when they graduate due to bad grades.

Still, it is possible to have a great experience with the Greek life and do well in your schooling so just push for that and you may really enjoy yourself here.

As a current member of a chapter on campus, I can give you a pretty good idea of what it is like. I personally decided to rush a sorority because I felt that it would give me a chance to “make a big school smaller”. It has given me a small community of girls that act as a support group, social group, and an all around fun time.
All of the sororities (18) and most fraternities (30+) participate in exchanges and date events. In my sorority we have about one to two exchanges per week at different bars with various fraternities, and they usually have a theme. These are a great way to get to know others in the Greek community.
Date events are hosted by your chapter, and usually you can invite on or two guests (barn dance, crush party, semi-formal).
In addition to social life, each greek chapter has a philanthropy for which they host different events for throughout the year in order to raise money. Attending (and planning these) is rewarding and fun!
There is so much to greek life, and I would suggest giving it a try! You can always leave if you dont enjoy it :)

I don’t know that sororities or fraternities PUSH kids to drink. My daughter is in a sorority there, and I can tell you that not only doesn’t she drink much, it has given her the opportunity for loads of leadership, as well as doing many many philanthropic events, such as habitat for humanity, alternative spring break, and other. She has met wonderful women and have many incredible opportunities.

My son is in a frat there. He has been able to keep up his grades and although there is plenty of drinking in his life, I’m quite sure the frat is not to blame…

If you choose to NOT go greek, you will also find a very vibrant social life. Contrary to the opinion of greeks, GDI’s enjoy their experiences just as much!

That helps so much Thanks hun! Which one are you if you don’t mind me asking?
