Green Bay Wisconsin area Residents/Packers fans????

<p>My soon to be 16 year old son is bound and determined to get to the Sept. 8 Season Opener Packers game when they retire Brett Favre’s number/jersey. He has been a major Packer fan since he was 3 years old - I have pictures of him at age 3 pulling out all of this “Packer” stuff and arranging it around the living room before each game…!!! Brett has definitely been a role model and inspiration for my son in a big way - his bedroom could make the average person think “stalker!” but he just truly, truly admires him!!!</p>

<p>Anyway, I have told him to put together a proposal, figuring out costs for tickets, traveling, food, etc. and to then present to me and my husband. He is willing to work extra caddying this summer to pay his “share”. (Have to admit, that I want all that $$ to be put away for college, but I also believe in trying to make a “dream come true” occasionally).</p>

<p>We already know thru Ebay that tickets are astronomical! Averaging around 700-800 for 2 tickets - yikes. What I’m looking for to pass onto him are any tips for travel to Green Bay - we’re in Northern Ohio - should they take the ferry from Michigan or travel thru Chicago and head north? Where to stay -like someplace at least an hour-or-two away on 94 if they drive??? The tentative idea is to drive Sunday 7th to friends in Chicago, stay there overnight, travel the 8th in the morning to Green Bay, stay for the game, drive an hour or two after the game towards home, spend the night and then drive the rest of the way Tuesday morning. But like I said, the ferry is an option too. </p>

<p>I checked airfare yesterday briefly - yikes again! - like $600 per person! What’s up with that? I don’t book flights often,maybe it’s too early or maybe there just aren’t any reasonable rates…</p>

<p>Again, any advice from GB area residents or Packers fans who have been to games appreciated!!! Much!!!</p>

<p>Taking the ferry is fun, but it costs $111 round trip per person and $146 for the car. Since you are already at the bottom of the lake, I would drive. I’m not certain, but you would probably take 43 from 94 in Milwaukee. It will take time to get out of the area around Lambeau. So maybe 10 PM when you get back to the highway. About 2 hrs from Green Bay to Milwaukee. I would either look for a hotel off of 43 or in Milwaukee or just stop at one you see when you get tired.</p>

<p>Wow, the ferry is pricey too! Seems even with the price of gas, driving is the least expensive…</p>

<p>Yes, my son mentioned 43 when he did a mapquest…94 to 43…</p>

<p>yea, I wouldn’t do the ferry (not really much of a time saver). Look into staying in Appleton or Oshkosh, if you don’t mind taking a different route back that might be a half hour longer or so, but in the end will save you money in hotel costs. I’m sure hotel rates there will be much less than Milwaukee, or even further south as you get closer to Chicago. Be aware that wherever you stay, you will want to avoid the area from the Wisconsin/Illinois border to the Illinois/Indiana border between 6AM and 9AM. So as long as you don’t hit either of those areas (and all of it in between) between those hours, it isn’t that bad.</p>

<p>Good suggestion on alternate cities - and yeah, ferry seems out…</p>
