<p>Has anyone successfully transferred to Grinnell, Macalester or Pomona with a mediocre high school academic record?</p>
<p>I know LACs can be just as selective, but I’ll bet that someone who spends 40 hours working on an application for a top 20 LAC has a better shot at getting in than someone who spends 40 hours working on an app for a top 20 university. One, LACs have fewer applicants, so it’s more likely, I’d guess, that they don’t use cut-offs or “scoring” criteria. Two, along the same lines, it’s easier for a compelling essay to stand out in a pool of 200 applications than in one of 2,000.</p>
