we are leading parallel lives - same for my son - deferred then WL at Mac and accepted at Grinnell
Notification came as surprise. I wasnāt expecting it today.
DD is in!
Good luck to all!
Same for us!! Congratulations!
Deferred the WL @ MAC but in with Foundersā Scholarship to Grinnell! Very happy in this house.
Omg!!! I got in with a Founderās Scholarship! Such a pleasant surprise; I was not expecting this at all today or at any point! Cool!
Like I truly didnāt think I stood a chance here wow
Same here!! Especially after WL at Macalester. Congratulations!!
Congratulations as well!!!
Iām in with 30K/year scholarship!!! Super exciting definitely bumps it up near the top of my list
Congrats! Itās kind of funny how many people thatās happened to this year, given the relative acceptance rates (at least historically).
Congratulations to all who have been accepted! My daughter is currently in her second year at Grinnell, and she is so happy to be there! The workload is intense at times, but she feels a sense of support from faculty and mentors, which is a huge help.
We live in California, so I was somewhat dubious about the distance from home, and my perceived isolation of the town. Truth be told, itās not that hard to get to Grinnell from where we are, and she loves the small and welcoming community that is now her home.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to reach out.
My son just got in today too! Got a great scholarship! We are from Sac., CA. Will be visiting in April
How does Grinnell gave the nerve to charge almost $90K/yr for the privilege to live in the middle of the Iowa cornfieldsā¦unbelievable, to me anyaeay, My S24 was accepted with a $30k scholarship but I refuse to let him go to Grinnell with that price tag.
Apologies for the double post.
Congratulations to your son on his acceptance to Grinnell! Given your stance on the cost of a private liberal arts education, Iām not sure I understand why he even bothered applying though. This information is readily available, so it should have come as no surprise. Many private liberal arts colleges charge comparable tuition and fees, some even more, and some are even more remote than Grinnell. The difference is that Grinnell is very generous with merit aid, as you saw with your sonās acceptance.
I wish him the best in whatever path he chooses.
Apparently, itās a lot cheaper if you just want to live in the middle of the cornfields without any of the educational opportunities.
I confess I did not look up the COA, it is entirely my inexplicable oversight. I always pictured the school would look like Platoās academy in Athens but with a midwestern twist, cornfields and all. I have no doubt it is a wonderful place to go to receive a top notch liberal arts education.
My son did not get in but was advised by his guidance counselor that CSS profile schools has bigger endowment and therefore are more generous in terms of financial aid. I did the CSS profile and i hated it.
Completing CSS Profile is financial colonoscopy without anesthesia, it is no fun at all. By the way, Grinnellās endowment is several billion dollars, which is amazing for a such a small, and not widely known, school. I recall reading about Warren Buffet involvement with the endowment, so I am not surprised their financial future looks bright.
Thanks for your candorāI greatly appreciate it. Just to clarify, while you pass many beautiful cornfields on the drive from the Des Moines airport to Grinnell, there are actually no cornfields near campus, at least not that I have seen :-). Most people who visit the campus are surprised by how much they like itāthat was certainly our experience when my daughter visited in high school. Itās a very special place in many respects.
Only someone from Cali would call a cornfield beautifulš. But I get your point, the school offers a fantastic learning environment, as I am sure you know first hand. I wish we could swing the cost, but are not willing to bust the undergrad budget, even for an uber selective place like Grinnell.
