I am wondering about logistics of getting to Des Moines airport to fly out/in for breaks etc. How does that work if students don’t have a car? it doesn’t sound like Ubers are available in Grinnell…is there a bus that takes them?
It looks like they have regular transportation to Des Moines.

Thank you!
I lived in IL for 16 years, and I think all farmland, including cornfields, are beautiful in their own way
Hello ya’ll, i got waitlisted by grinnell, just wanted to know if i have chances of getting in(need some reality checks)
It varries by year. Not sure what the acceptance rate was this year - but the 2022-2023 CDS says 1426 people accepted the offer of waitlist and Grinnell offered 58 of them a spot in the class. (I don’t think their 2023-2024 CDS is listed yet.) It changes year to year and I think applications were up again this year so, who knows. Definitely write a LCI and send them any good updates, though. Good luck!!
I can vouch for what pilate said. My daughter has used the airport shuttle on a number of occasions and it has worked out well. The timing isn’t always perfect but she has never missed her flight! Students who have cars also offer rides.
Same here for D24. She’s putting her letter together now, and happily has some good fodder to brag about! Good luck to you!
Good luck to her! She is doing the right thing—showing lots of interest and highlighting your fit for them is key, as friends said last year.
My S24 get admitted and get scholarship . We appreciate the generosity of the school . We heard almost every admitted kid get the scholarship . We just have one concern . My son will do bio and premed track . We hear some parents say since the curriculum is very open , and kids may lost focus ; and we are not sure how strong is the premed advising , support since the school is in rural area , and prepare MCAT and apply med school requires a lot of things including rigorous courses, research , and hospital shadowing , so on, especially we hope he could apply med school before gradation . So we are bebating it vs. other university which has med school like Tufts university ( he also get in , but did not get any scholarship ) . Any suggestion?
Congratulations to your son on his acceptance to Grinnell and Tufts!
All Grinnell students, regardless of their major(s) have an enormous amount of support through their Advisor(s) and through the Center for Careers, Life and Services. More information, specifically about support for Health Services majors, including the pre-med track, can be found here:
In excess of 20% of Grinnell graduates enroll in graduate or professional school after graduation, with exceptionally high acceptance rates to top-tier programs. More information with specifics about the class of 2022 can be found here:
I wish your son the best of luck with this decision. Please let me know if I can help with any additional information.
Thanks for your information !
Very useful information. For sure, this will help us in finalizing our decision for Grinnell
For those who are OOS and internationals, are you planning to visit Grinnell before you makeup your mind?
Also, would anyone know whats the dorm condition, and what process they follow to allocate?
Regarding dorm assignments, first year students do not go through that process until the summer, but housing is guaranteed for all. There are a variety of dorms at Grinnell, some older than others, some more modern with air conditioning. When my daughter was a first year she got her first dorm choice, Norris Hall, and that was a great arrangement for her. It is a recently renovated dorm with air-conditioning and an elevator and she and her roommate got along great. They met each other on the incoming first year Instagram group page, and remain good friends to this day.
If your child commits to Grinnell, you can join the parents Facebook page where you will find loads of information about the various dorms on campus.
Regarding visiting campus, I would highly encourage you to do so if you are able. There is nothing quite like the in-person experience to give you clarity in this decision-making process.
While Grinnell was definitely in my daughter’s top five before she submitted applications, it wasn’t until we visited campus that we all truly fell in love with it and that convinced her to apply ED. I was confident that other schools in her top five would beat out Grinnell, but I was wrong. Of course, it all depends on the person, but I have heard similar stories from other Grinnell parents that I have become acquainted with.
Thanks, this is really helpful.
We are still contemplating, though Grinnell is our number 1 choice at the moment. DD has joined their Discord Server, I wasn’t aware about their Instagram group, I will check with my DD.
Happy to help! I wish you and your D the best of luck with the decision process. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Anyone visiting the first admitted days at Grinnell? Also, has anyone received their acceptance letter/package in the mail yet? Keep thinking it should be any day now.
my son’s came awhile ago–maybe a week after decisions came out
Thank you! Did you receive something other than a folder with financial aid info?
