Grinnell, Mount Holyoke, or Bard?

hi so im very very indecisive and i cant choose where to go for university… i got into Grinnell, Mount Holyoke, Fordham, Bard, Emmanuel, and Clark. I’m trying to decide between Grinnell, Mount Holyoke, and Bard. Any help would be appreciated because i have to make my deposit before May 1st. Thanks!

p.s the thought of being more than an hour away from a city is kinda scary… and im majoring in psychology

Bard is very woodsy, feels a little like a summer camp. Mt Holyoke offers lots of options with the 5 colleges, so even though you are not right outside of Boston, you will have things to do, and it has a great psychology department. I don’t know anything about Grinnell, other than that it gets fantastic reviews here on cc. I would lean toward Mt. Holyoke or Grinnell given the tiny bit you told us about yourself. If you give us more information about what you are looking for it will be easier to give you advice.

Have you visited all the schools? Have you compared the course offerings in psychology? You may be surprised at the differences from one school to the next. Have you looked at the requirements for your major at each school - and are there any internship or research possibilities?

Bard is accessible to NYC by train - but it’s a bit of a haul, and not free. However, the students do go into the city regularly. Grinnell is not near any big city - Des Moines is a bit more than an hour drive and Iowa City, the other direction, is about the same. I don’t know if Grinnell provides transportation but someone is sure to have a car. Mt. Holyoke is probably in the liveliest of towns of the three schools on your list.

im an international student so i cant visit any campus :frowning: also im going to be trying to transfer to NYU after the first year, so would the name and “prestige” of the school i go to make a difference with my chances? and my main indecision right now is because of each schools proximity to a city but im wondering if i should go to the school with the best academics (grinnell im guessing)

No, Grinnell’s academics are equal to the other two. And all are equal in terms of prestige as well as ability to transfer. If you’re an international and only want to go there because you were admitted, and I’m guessing, got financial aid - why not just pick the cheapest? (Although airfare to Des Moines should be considered from your home country.) Also, NYU is notorious for bad aid for domestic students. Will you be able to afford $70,000 per year?

If you want to be in the big city, go to Fordham. Clark, btw. is well known for the field of psychology.
