Groups/musical artists you have not seen in concert but would love to ( and they're not dead, etc)

Saw Elton John in 2014. His voice isn’t what it was but still pretty decent and he’s a master entertainer. Knows how to engage even a crowd of 80,000. He makes performing his songs look easier than it actually is, which if you’ve heard people try to cover his songs, you’ll understand. Glad I got to see him.

I don’t like the way Stevie Nicks voice has aged. I saw Fleetwood Mac in 1982 - they were clearly all out of sorts with each other. Nicks would come out for her songs, Christie McVie for hers, Lindsey Buckingham I think kind of got them to share a stage for his stuff, but they didn’t look happy about it. It was kind of funny, but sad too.

I saw the Stones for the Bigger Bang Tour in 2005. Keith and Mick were 62 and were rocking.

Have never heard Bruce Springsteen live, so will defer to those who have. His recorded hits do not reflect a technically trained/amazing voice. Always thought his appeal had to do with other factors.

I’m still disappointed at the old fogey factor here! Don’t any of us keep up with/admire young artists?

I wanted to see Sam Smith when he came to Dallas last year. DH put in my birthday card, “Go for it! Buy us the seats of your choice on me!” I went online and just so so seats were $450 each. I just couldn’t justify it. I love him, but really?

I saw Stevie Nicks about 4 or 5 years ago. I loved it. Her voice was still strong enough, she was very personable between songs and engaged. Loved seeing her still out there at 60+!

“Don’t any of us keep up with/admire young artists?”

Definitely but I actively go see them if I like them so it doesn’t really fit with the theme of the thread.

Agree. I still keep up too ! Old fogey that I am!

Right!

Plus I mentioned Old 97s and Brandi Carlisle–not exactly ancient.

H and I saw the Moody Blues a couple of years ago. Graeme made the Viagra joke as well. In our mid to late 50’s at the time, H and I were amongst the youngest attendees. I joked that, instead of the lighters that were held up in the 70’s, this time the audience was going to hold up canes and walkers. Nonetheless, it was a great concert and I was glad I went.

My D has introduced me to some newer artists but I am of the mindset that I won’t pay to see an artist whose entire body of work I am unfamiliar with, This goes back to my youth. I had very little spare money for records, so I only bought greatest hits compilations.

@garland, I read that as Belinda Carlisle! Dating myself!

I see a lot of concerts, favorites being Pink and Billy Joel with Elton John. That being said, I’ve wanted to see Jack Johnson for some time now and have tickets for the show this Friday  After that, any concert at RedRocks is on my short list…I hear its amazing there!

@Nrdsb4 – I wouldn’t mind seeing Belinda Carlisle, either! (and Go Go’s if they still exist which I think not.)

Aaaand just realized that Brandi doesn’t spell it with an S. Whoops.

Nothing like it. I’ve seen dozens of concerts there and they are all very different. The very best, in my opinion, were 1) James Taylor and 2) Huey Lewis and the News w/ Tower of Power (they played a number of songs together).

I have always missed seeing the best 3 man band, Rush. Don’t expect Getty Lee’s voice to sound the same as back in the day.

Here is an outlier – I’d love to see Yo Ya Ma in concert.

James Taylor is another well past his prime vocally, IMO, sadly. Still very nostalgic and fun as the songs bring back so many memories.

Only been to Red Rocks once so far but it is a very special setting. Hope to attend more performances in the future despite the distance.

I saw JT several times in the 90s I think but at most venues he used the stage for political purposes and talked more than sang. Really disappointing regardless of your political views. I’m there to hear the music not get lectured.

@happy1 I haven’t seen Yo Yo Ma, but I did recently see Joshua Bell in concert. I was breathless for days afterwards. IMO classical music has subtle nuances that just don’t translate well to recordings. Especially when you’re talking about those master performers and their multi-million dollar instruments, playing in great concert halls. The experience is like no other.

I saw Yo Yo Ma in lots of concerts, I went to college with him.
