Are there any groups or individuals you would love to see in concert before they stop doing concerts or you stop going? How much would you be willing to pay?
And if you attended a concert you always dreamed of, were you satisfied, disappointed orvsomewhere in between?
I recently attended a Jackson Browne concert. I’ve always wanted to see him. It was a great concert. I was not happy with my seats however. But that is a whole other story dealing with my H.
The ending of the story is H bought tickets on line to another concert at a different time and different artists, not JB, at the same venue. Non-refundable of course. So by the time we realized this, there were limited JB tickets left. I do not want to get into the whole story, but H SCREWED UP. So we went to the concert we never intended to and attended the concert we intended to, but with less than stellar seats.
But the JB concert was great and the other concert was really not so bad.
I did not mention that we had to drive 90 minutes, no traffic, there and back for both.
Billy Joel. I had tickets once for a New Year’s Eve show but came down with a vile virus that night and H and I had to give the tickets away. Although he performs every month at Madison Square Garden, which is literally in Penn Station, which I pass through twice daily, I have never yet been able to get tickets. I am not one of those who buys them months in advance…
As for concerts I dreamed of - I saw Bruce Springsteen in 1978 and was never able to get tickets again until last summer. I went with S17, a friend of his and the friend’s mom. Imagine my embarrassment when I opened the tickets - at the stadium- and realized they were for the next show! It worked out - we bought tickets at the box office for that night’s show and I resold my other tickets for exactly what I had paid for them. It would up saving me money because I didn’t have to pay the telecharge/ticketmaster fees for the tickets we bought at the show. The show was amazing - Bruce is awesome and it was so great to share my love of a great musician with S17.
Have seen both Willie and Bruce. But the Bruce was a major disappointment because he was doing an experimental thing and sang none of his known, well or otherwise, songs.
I also saw Dylan twice. One in his Christian period and one in his incoherent period. Couldn’t understand a thing he said or sang. That was the more recent one.
I saw Jackson Browne recently. There were a lot of 20 something’s who got up to refresh their drinks in the middle of songs. Why was the bar open? Why were they there?
Billy Joel is my choice as well. And although we are only about 50 miles from MSG, it’s a bit pricey for us with either tolls and parking or mass transit plus cost of tickets. I’m hoping he will someday do some of the smaller venues out here where we have been able to see other legends. But I don’t see him doing that in the near future.
Some friends once took us to see Jimmy Buffett and they had seats on the front row center. Jimmy sang a verse of Brown Eyed Girl to me and they had me on camera on the jumbo tron. I got lots of phone calls the next day from friends who had been there too.
Bob Dylan is horrible (in recent years) in concert. He is disengaged and you can’t understand a word (even more than usual). We’ve seen Willie several times in the last couple of years and he is terrific. He basically sings straight through without wasting time and is just a classic.
I’ve seen Alan Jackson as part of conglomeration concerts (CMAFest, CMA Awards etc) here in Nashville, but I would love to see a whole feature concert. Same with Eric Church - have seen him at the Opry but have not seen his tour.
I tried to get tickets to Dolly Parton 2 years ago and all the shows sold out in seconds and I didn’t succeed.
Steely Dan. My favorite band from back in the day. They don’t tour much, and when they do, I can never make the date they are in my area. So frustrating! And with these older bands, you never know if they will ever tour again!
Saw Billy Joel and Elton John together in the best concert ever. It was a pretty big stadium. They each had pianos and at one point sang each other’s songs. So great! My favorite of all time.
Jimmy Buffett was great years ago (the smoke haze was great too!)
Saw Janet Jackson who wasn’t exactly my favorite (but was of another friend) but she was a fabulous performer.
Saw Lionel Ritchie and Tina Turner in concert together. His performance was SO good you melted in the music. He took a big auditorium and his performance made it feel like your living room. Then they turned the volume up for Tina (the star!) and all you could do was hold your ears closed. She gave a great performance but the sheer volume turned it into torture (I almost left and would have except for friends–and I wasn’t even old yet!).
Not sure how much I’d pay for tix. I do know that I’d balk at the 150 range. Guess it depends on how badly I wanted to see them in concert. I’m more into a theater experience rather than concerts.
I would love to see U2 on their current Joshua Tree tour, and they are performing this summer in an outdoor stadium in my area (Florida). However, we only have two types of weather on summer evenings here: brutal heat or thundershowers. So, I guess I don’t want to see them that badly.
Have seen everyone else on my concert bucket list (almost all of those mentioned in other posts here) except Van Morrison. He was recently in my area, but had high ticket prices ($500+ for decent seats), mixed reviews, and an uninteresting set list on this tour. Consoled myself with the “Too Late to Stop Now” box set.
@audiophile–I’m seeing the Joshua Tree tour in three weeks–can’t wait! @morrismm --was that Bruce concert one of the aucostic tours? I saw one (maybe Devils and Dust?). Thought it was great, but I’ve seen Bruce many times. Was really annoyed by the “fans” complaining behind us–like there was no advance notice of what the tour was.
My choice for haven’t seen but want to is The Pretenders. I’d pay a lot for a live experience of “Back on the Chain Gang.”
The Bruce concert was a folk concert. It may have been aucostic. But I didn’t know any of the songs and I’m not a big folk music fan. I did know going in to the concert that it would not be his usual. We got the tickets because friends either had extra or someone couldn’t go. And we figured, why not! But I thought he would sing at least one or two of his own songs.
