How bad is it if I get a C in AP US History (applying as engineering major) 2nd semester of junior year?

Could I still get in with a C?? I have a few B’s here and there, but mostly A’s… 4.05 gpa and SAT is probably around 1800 (estimated, could be much higher or lower)…

You can definitely get in if you balance yourself out. A C shouldn’t matter much since UCSD uses a point system. This years cutoff was 7426. As long as you passed that many points, you are in. Here is the description of the point system http://admissions.ucsd.edu/dev3/info/comreview.html . When it comes to impacted (espectially in the engineering field), the cutoff is raised higher. I believe it goes up to about 7800 points to get in? If you don’t make the high cutoff, you will be put into your alternate major, assuming that it is not impacted.

I would definitely get some points in awards, leadership, and community service if I were you. Good luck!

I got two C’s, some B’s (4.12 weighted GPA) and a lower SAT score and no community service, no leadership, no awards, et cetera et cetera…and UCSD loves me.

Your GPA is high. You could’ve had the following: low income, first gen attending a university, environmental difficulties, and personal hardships. These are also huge factors of UCSD’s admissions. If you are going to UCSD, have fun there hoboknifefight.

Umm…I think I’m not getting something :. Well, UCSD has an awesome campus. The engineering buildings just left me awed. Have fun man, I’m currently stuck with UCI, but I’m hoping for some appeals to go through.

Jake22 I also had a C second semester in AP US history but got a 4 on the exam along with a 4 in AP Euro. I had a lower GPA than you and I got in. So I’m sure you’ll be fine!

getting a C in the class then a 4 on the ap test just indicates to some that you know how to take the test. haha j/k. just read that somewhere…i think hopkins admission or something.

bleh not really sometimes. the grade is reflective of the whole semester while the test even though its on material covered throughout the year its still only ONE test. what if someone was feeling down on that day? i think the grade is more reflective. if you get a 4 or 5 and you got a C in the class i just think you’re lazy.

If you truly want to get into UCSD, you need to take advantage of the information they give us on the comprehensive review. The link to the score guide is in my earlier post in this thread. You can definitely get in with one C, but it could reduce your overall points. I can’t stress enough about the point system; they literally use it (admissions are limited to that point system too)! This year’s cutoff is 7426 points.

I had a 3.3 unweighted/3.67 weighted GPA. Most people had a lot of doubts about me getting in, but I rounded out by getting a decent SAT (2080), participating in Varsity Tennis, being a first-gen college student, being a native-Spanish speaker, 100+ community service hours, and having good personal statements critiqued by my teachers/counselors/college admissions directors (Berkeley, most notably).
