Am I the only one who only has two of the four classes listed as requesting books? Both foundations classes say nothing yet. Is this normal?

professors don’t necessarily turn in their requests until two weeks before the start of classes, so you won’t know. odds are, though, that you will need books for those classes.

wait… .where did you figure out if even two of your profs were requesting books? thanks

Go to NYU website- go to bookstore-click on book inquiry and ordering and then follow the instructions for your student ID and DOB- it will post your books

hmmmm that’s weird… i have my books for the two foundations classes and my history… but nothing on my writing course

I just did what you said above and there are around 20 books in my list for 4 courses- is that possible?
do I have to buy them all 100%?
and other than NYU bookstore where can I find these books? other bookstores-former students-2nd hand???
thanks

it’s 21 books exactly and the materials for my Writing class arent even listed yet: “No materials requested” - so 7 books per course-is that normal??

I was able to get all books but one (of 9) from either amazon or barnes and noble. The prices were lower on amazon and shipping was included. B/N requires you to be a member for $25 to get the discounts but shipping is saved (not tax). You can get used thru amazon but will pay for shipping so you have to work that out cost-wise. The other book- on western art- i ordered full price from NYU bookstore- couldn’t find it anywhere on the net. However NYU does not charge the tax but does charge shipping.

I got all my books on amazon (that were up so far). I also already owned a couple of them from earlier years/ siblings. unfortunately i had buy the odyssey… again. I bought a copy freshman year… then gave it to my brother fr his freshman year… and this summer he threw it away. argh! I think the 7 books is pretty normal (or at least for my list) because all of them are works of literature/plays(aka… short). So books 7 per class is a piece of cake.

question: how many books do you guys have listed for your social foundations class?

i have 10 including Oxford Study Bible with Apocrypha which is also listed for Cultural Foundations

I talked to some of my friends who go to college and they all say that I shouldnt buy all of the books in advance because most of them wont be even used in class, that I should by them one by one if needed.
true or false?

ah…no wait. got them reversed. oops. yeah i have the same thing you do right now i think.

anyhow, with the buying books at once thing… when i went to boarding school… there was only one time we didn’t use all the books. I personally would buy them all and see what the professor says the first day. if they’re like… no we’re reading all these books (all of the gsp books seem to be the main course material… so i doubt they’ll be any we don’t use) then you are reading all those books even if it’s at an insane pace. now i would sort of understand if you were in a … bio class. you’ll probably have your main text and then some optional materials… and then some “required” materials you can always check out in the library since you basically never use them. I have a feeling this doesn’t hold true for gsp though.

I checked the list about three days ago and I bought a couple of books. Now the list changed.
