Hi everyone, I’m just posting this in case anyone ever thought of this too before.
Last year, I was Waitlisted at Columbia College for RD. Last year’s admission to CC especially for RD was very selective (like 9.4% i believe) and I was happy to be waitlisted. But eventually I was ‘released’ from the WL and came up with this theory…

From my understanding, if 9.4% was admitted, they would not waitlist more students than they accepted, meaning the waitlisted are anywhere between top 9.4% ~ 18% of all applicants (or maybe even less). and I know that for Early Decision, the acceptance rate goes up to like 22%.

So theoretically, if I reapply this upcoming november in the ED round with a even better application than last year’s, it seems like I would be in for sure (other things being equal although they never could be) because last year I must have been within the top 18% range, and ED acceptance rate is usually higher than 20%.

Now that’s only my theory and I understand there are other factors like different officers viewing the application, possibly more competition than last year… but doesn’t my theory make sense at least mathematically?

I was very curious how some of the more experienced people on this board would view this.
