Guaranteed Admission program

Our D is interested in becoming a Physical Therapist. She has the statistics to be considered for the guaranteed admissions program. We are visiting in June, however, because of a very busy summer she has to visit on a Saturday and will likely not have the opportunity to speak with someone from the department. Who would she contact to ask questions concerning the program? Questions might be: Recommended Majors? Can one graduate in less than 4 years? What AP credits might be accepted by the SHRS Dept.? (They could be different than what the school accepts towards an UG degree). Opportunities for undergraduates to find internships or perhaps positions like PT technicians?

D has some fairly specific attributes she is looking for in a university and it would seem that Pitt is a very good and possibly a perfect fit. She wants a university with over 10k undergraduates, with DPT graduate program and a dance minor and opportunities to perform (she has danced since she was 4). It has to be within 5 hours of our home. She would also like a university whose students are as interested in learning as she is. Pitt has a very highly ranked PT program so she is very interested in her upcoming visit.

Contact the head of the DPT program and ask to be put in touch with students who are currently in the program that were GAP through Pitt (I’m sure there are some around). They should be willing to get in touch with you via phone or email, and if the student is living close to campus you may even be able to meet them in person on the weekend.

@ivvcsf, I suggest you look into our Open Houses. Ready…Set…Pitt! is a great program and it is held on Saturdays throughout the summer. Representatives from our schools will be there to answer your questions. Programming also includes: campus tours, information about admissions and financial aid, a tour of Pittsburgh, and a campus life information fair. These events are very lively with visitors coming from all over. They are very fun and informative and give you the chance to meet Pitt academic/student life representatives that you normally would miss on a Saturday.

@AwesomeOpossum I’ll suggest she do that. It’s a good idea!

@hailtopitt1787 Thanks for the link. We have a specific date we are going up to Erie PA for a business meeting. While I’m there wife will be w D at Pitt. Unfortunately it’s none of those weekends.

@ivvcsf,

I understand that, it’s always good to combine trips. If you all are in the area in the fall of next year, we also offer open houses on weekends throughout the fall.

In the meantime, we will look forward to welcoming you on campus. Feel free to call our Visit Center if you have any questions about your trip to Pitt: 412-624-7717.
