We are suprised to hear that students officially do not get additted to School of Engineering at a few public universities until the end of second year. What’s the best way to find out if the admission is a guranteed admission into Engineering? And the stats for how many kids get admitted vs applied etc if the admission is conditional? That information may be out there, but I couldn’t find it.

Sorry, if my post is too generic or if I should do more homework. I feel lost in the maze of college admissions.

You may have to do some sleuthing on the web sites to see whether:

Students apply to the engineering division (or a specific engineering major) as freshmen.

Students enter the university not in engineering, but must later apply to enter the engineering division or an engineering major.

Students enter the university not in engineering, but can enter the engineering division or an engineering major if they meet minimum academic standards.

I wouldn’t be too worried. If you are admitted as a freshman, you take the pre-engineering curriculum. Calculus series, Physics series, another science class… The reason why it takes about 2 years, is to finish the pre-requisites that are about common across all the engineering majors.

Each school is different like ucba said. Some schools you are directly admitted to the School of Engineering, some you have to formally apply after certain classes are completed above minimum standards. That g.p.a can range anywhere from a 2.0-2.75 from what I have seen at the schools I have looked at.
