"Guaranteed Transfer Option"

Congrats Figgy - do you mind saying what your EFC was?

Oh coool that’s great to hear figgy… I feel better cuz I was a bit anxious about FA, but that sounds fabulous! haha that save Darfur rally sounds exciting ;)

Congrats, Figgy! Cornell is pretty good with financial aid, from what we know from family experience and what we hear about others. It did occur to me that this could be another risk for some students taking up the GT offer–not knowing what the aid package would be a year or so after planning to take the transfer. So glad it’s going to work out for you, most likely! And, of COURSE, Cornell is being nice to you–if they pay any attention to these boards, they would/should realize what an asset to them you are here! :slight_smile: The Save Darfur rally reminds me of Ithaca–you’re going to fit right in there; don’t worry! Ha. :)

EFC: 12,000
Grants: 22,000
Loans: 12,000

those r pretty much roundings.

The Save Darfur Rally was absolutely amazing. It was one of the greatest times I’ve had yet in college. I screamed my freaking lungs out.

"The Save Darfur rally reminds me of Ithaca–you’re going to fit right in there; don’t worry! Ha. " ooo really? Can u explain that? Got me a excited lol

Hi, Figgy–Let’s just say that Cornell & Ithaca have a long history of protests and demonstrations about all kinds of issues. :wink: Here are a couple of articles about a parking lot protest that ended up being successful for the protesters:

<a href=“Home | Cornell Chronicle”>Home | Cornell Chronicle;

<a href=“Home | Cornell Chronicle”>Home | Cornell Chronicle;

I might not understand this correctly, but I think one of the outcomes of this event is that students get a free bus pass as freshmen (to encourage not bringing cars to campus). Not sure how this affects sophomores+.

Glad to hear you had a good time at the rally today. Just think–4 months to your move-in at Big Red! :slight_smile: I’m going to yet another graduation for another family member on May 27th. Last year it was a beautiful day; hope this year is, too!

To anyone who read about the rally…I’m ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THE BOSTON GLOBE! If you actually have/wanna look at the globe it’s the article on the bottom left and I’m the one lying down horizontally closest to the bottom if you look. So exciting!

Here, Figgy?

http://www.boston.com/news/globe/larger_view/</a></p>

Yup I’m the one lying down horizontally in the very bottom center. I am around some of the people from my college. The girl standing up is from my college too. It’s such a cool picture!

(Although I don’t like that they did a few things in poor taste. 1. They called it a refugee crisis…it’s a GENOCIDE (recognized by the US, UN, and other world bodies). 2. They said 200,000 died…that’s rather inaccurate. The number most sources give is 400,000…and that’s from last year. 3. They didn’t write an article about it! We marched through Boston and did a rally and a die-in and we didn’t get an article! Although getting the front page of the Globe is amazing so I really can’t complain! )

cool! how’d you find out that you were in the globe? did a phtographer tell you or something?

hahaha that’s sooo cool!
Ya calling it a refugee crisis makes no sense whatsoever, it simply takes away from the gravity of the matter…it is a mass killing and the Coalition for International Justice estimates deaths to be around 400,000+, that’s what many other reliable sources claim as well….they should not downplay something like this…
lol I wish they had a rally in MN, it would be incredible!

I’m in Boston so it’s easy to find out ur in the Globe lol. Someone ran up to me on the way to morning classes and said they think I am in the globe heh.

Today, a few kids in my school who also got the GT were saying how most of us will end up staying after our first year (we’re going to very good schools). It’s gotten me sad… I love Cornell, but I really like USC too!

I do wonder how many end up exercising their GT option.

For ILR I think it is around 25% of GTs end up coming (whether they didn’t accept gt, didn’t qualify, or just didn’t come) if I have the right numbers in my head.

Figgy: $22,000 in grants sounds pretty sweet but $12,000 in loans? Does that mean you can look ahead to owing close to $40,000 when you are finished? I’m surprised you don’t have any work study in your package.

If you think about it 40,000 isn’t that bad…that’s like the average for students!

for ILR it’s around 40-50 GT’s out of like 200?? not many…

I also have workstudy…guess I didn’t mention that lol. 2k work study. So scratch my 12k loans…I accidently counted my work study as a loan. My mom told me them over the phone so I lumped all of them together…I have them written on Microsoft Word and there are a bunch of different names of loans and hidden in the middle is the work study so I accidently mistook it for a loan when I was writing on CC. So 10k loans, 2k work study. lol :)

This is pretty random…but study abroad, depending on where you go, costs less than Cornell tuition…hmm so can you then choose to stay for a year or is it only a semester deal? Pretty cool stuff tho… hahaha I’m already thinking about study abroad lol ahhh i can’t wait…don’t know where i want to go tho…haha
http://www.cuabroad.cornell.edu/cost/faq.asp#1</a></p>

Ya I’ve been thinking about it to. I’m pretty much set on Italy. - That’s really cool that it costs less!

-lol keep the distractions coming. I’m stuck doing finals…writing a paper right now.

hahah…sorry i’m really random like that…I’m supposed to finish a paper, and study for like 4 finals, but instead i’m looking at study abroad stuff…hahah…you know how that goes! :)

Ps. did u know you could do a study abroad in Afghanistan? lol the possibilities are endless…but Italy sounds awesome!

Ya I have 3 essays (one 20 pages) and 2 exams in the next four days…I’m on my first essay out of doing all of those. lol :slight_smile: :)
