Guess I'll be up all night

My D and 5 class mates had to drive from Upper New York State to just outside of NY city this evening through the Adirondacks as they have been asked to give a work shop and concert tomorrow evening. The problem is that she called me about 1 hr ago as they were stuck off the edge of the road. Somebody had been tail gating them for over 10 miles and so they decided to pull over and went too far. They called AAA and they were coming within an hour. Now I got a broken up call and I think said they were back on the road. I know they are in an area where cell phone service is iffy at best. Needless to say my W and I are worried sick and have no idea what to do. I cant reach her or any of her friends by phone.

Oh no - so sorry to hear this. At least she’s not alone and AAA is on the way. I will send a prayer that they get to their destination safe & sound.

6 of them make this an adventure. Not to worry too much, pdad. They will be fine as they are together.

If you are able, try sending a TEXT message to see if that will get a response. It also may be possible to call AAA to see if they can radio the responder to confirm they got them back on the road.

Can you call AAA and ask them to update you on the situation?

Do you know their location?

Take some comfort in knowing that your daughter is not alone and she’s with her friends.

Try texting her. (crossposted)

If she is on your cell phone plan, you may be able sign up for cell phone tracking feature (it would tell you exactly where her cell is). Where there is no signal, it maybe difficult…You may be able to call the cell provider to see if they could pin point where the last call was made.

As mentioned by sax, your daughter is probably fine since she is traveling with other kids.

I just got very a short txt that said “on road” so I guess they are OK. I tried calling but no connection. The problem is that it is a van load of girls. Mind you they are all percussionist and know how to use sticks and mallets for self defense :). I wont rest till they get there now though. Thanks folks I just needed to get my worries out somehow without getting my W more upset.

Sounds like good news :)

When my called and told me her car broke down in a very bad neighborhood and she didn’t respond to my calls half an hour later (her phone died), my imagination went into overdrive. I called AAA and they were so nice. They told me that the guy had been there, started her car and seen her drive off. It was very reassuring.

Gotta love AAA. Glad to hear they are back on the road.

Yesterday I had a very simple question for D1. I called her, emailed her, texted her, and she didn’t respond. Now, how many kids wouldn’t respond to a text. I panicked, I thought something must have happened to her. Two hours later, she texted me to let know that she left her phone in her car while she was in a meeting. I could definitely relate with the worst case scenario mentality. Almost all the time, it turns out fine. I practice a lot of breath in and breath out.

I am getting updates in little pieces here. Now the txt is “doing fine”. I had taught her that when you know you are going in and out of service to write a short txt and press send. Most cellphones will keep trying to send it and as as soon as there is any service at least that will get sent. It will kill the battery though so she was told to make sure to have a spare one and the car charger. I guess that is what she doing and if I guess right they should be coming into full service within the next half hour. Again thanks everyone for letting me ramble.

Odfort glad I am not the only one! I had the same experience with DS yesterday and my mind went in overdrive. Turns out he had left his cel At a restaurant and went back today at lunch to get it. when I hadnt heard back in almost 24 hours I finally sent an email which he answered from work. I wish I could just breathe more on this stuff. He is a 22 year old financially independent adult living three thousand miles away for goodness sakes but my worst case scenario mind is terrible.

Just got the last call. They have made it to Albany and have decided to spend the night as it was far too exciting of an evening. They have another 2.5 hours to go but can make that in the morning. I guess I can sleep after all.

Sleep well, percussiondad.

Their biggest worry now will be where to go for breakfast :).
