<p>The thing about screeds from the self-righteous, penitent rich like King is that they all assume that the present level of government spending is ok. They and the rest of us would not have to be taxed so much – nor the rich seemingly guilted into paying “more” – if the government simply stopped promising too much and overpaying for too much and throwing wrenches into the private economy where wealth is actually created (Keystone pipeline, anyone?). Rather than lobbying for his ilk to be paying more taxes, King should rather be lobbying to simply cut down the federal government and its awesomely bloated payrolls and irreduceable pensions – that would serve the 99% far better (as in, getting them decent jobs and off the federal dole that King wants to pay for).</p>
