Guidance counselors, gap years

“Guidance counselors, who are usually evaluated by how many students they send right on to college, rarely recommend a gap year.”

This caught my eye because a friend’s daughter complained that she was supposed to fill in a form with her plans for after graduation: go to 4-yr college, go to 2-yr college, or enter military. Options not listed: gap year, get a job, go to trade school.

Well, there is no such thing as “gap year” per se …but there should be options like get a job or go to trade school or deferred college acceptance.
