Gunman barricading self in at Johnson Space Center

Just got off the phone with s. in Houston to be sure he didn’t have any friends working at the Johnson Space Center. What is this world coming to???

From what the news is saying, it is a man in his 50’s, on the 2nd floor of bldg 44, an engineering bldg (communication and tracking lab). I believe is is a former employee or contractor with an engineering firm. Some reports of shots fired, but all visitors at the NASA space center are reportely ok. My s’s response was “gee- they didn’t have enough trouble already with the astronaut?”. I guess we need to keep a sense of humor.

jym - we are getting that Jacobs Engineering has confirmed the gunman is one of their employees and that he has barricaded himself near the stairwell on the second floor. The situation must be somewhat under control because they are allowing kids at nearby schools to go home with their parents.

Glad to hear that, ldmom. I was first hearing htat they were not letting the parents into the school to get the kids, so I guess that has changed. There is a news conference soon to be held.

Sadly, the gunman killed a hostage and then himself.
