So sad. The victims, who were Muslim, sound like wonderful people who had so much to give to the world. The suspected killer was a self-proclaimed “anti-theist” who had strong anti-Muslim and anti-Christian views.
Just horrific. Wonder if the killer will be labeled a terrorist as he should… It seems most Americans believe that label only belongs to one group.
This is just awful news, and my heart goes out to the entire Carolina community.

Horrible. My kid is spending this semester at UNC. Says that the university did send some emails out yesterday but are generally not releasing a lot of information yet.

They seem like such fine young people. What a shame. This is the kind of thing that results from dehumanizing people who are “other.” There is far too much of that going on for political gain–and commercial gain, in the case of radio and TV–lately.
What a horrific crime. I really want to know more background on this creep, although it’s probably not possible to ever get any real insight into what inspires people to do this kind of thing.
How would it help matters if we call this guy a terrorist? Do you really think this is something that should be politicized?

Over a parking dispute?
If it’s a parking dispute, it’s not “terrorism” as we normally define it. That the guy is anti-religion doesn’t mean he wants to kill religious people.
I have heard of fights over parking, but never have I heard of three young people being killed execution style over parking.
Just saw their pictures. Beautiful couple with a bright future ahead. It’s a loss not only to the family but also to the community. Second year dental at UNC at the age of 24 is an achievement. His parents would have been so proud of him.

They’re holding a vigil tonight for the students.
One of them, Deah Barakat, was raising money for a project to provide dental care to Syrian refugees in Turkey. His project has gained over 20,000 dollars in the past two hours.
I’m glad that at least his vision will be seen through, but it’s such a senseless loss. : (
Mynaaa, my thoughts are with you and your community. What a wonderful tribute to what seems like a promising life cut short.
I don’t want to see this waste of skin’s face plastered everywhere. I want the faces of the victims of what a terrorist with a gun can do to be front and center.
