…it’s a joke issue…

yeah, dude. it’s the april fools issue.

Gotta love it…always makes me laugh.

All the articles seem to really bash Gutmann. They never did this to J.Ro. Odd because Gutmann is doing an excellent job at the only real role of a President: fundraising

And SEAS being shut down after losing its accreditation. You gotta love that!

Hilarious!

Haha… the best article was the one about the admissions office using Facebook…

http://www.dailypennsylvanian.com/vnews/display.v/ART/443209e61a3bf

It actually had me laughing out loud for a while! :D

“Hey Harvard: She’s all yours. enjoy the speeches; we didn’t”

This is one point that I agree with. Mrs Gutmann visited Hong Kong sometime last month and on her last day attended a Hong Kong Alumni Fundraising Dinner for Scholarships. Being one of the early decisioners to Penn, I was invited to this “prestigious” event to meet the Penn President.

Before the dinner, the organizer invited Mrs Gutmann up to the stage to make a speech. The speech lasted at least 30 good minutes i could have been filling my hungry stomach. As she graced the elevated platform, she looked around and proceeded to make her opening joke:

"Hey, i can hear some music up here? Is there supposed to be music playing? Is it part of the speech?

Taps the mic table in front of her

“hahaha i can still hear the music, is it supposed to be here? wow this is weird, the first time im giving a speech with myterious music playing”

Forced chuckles and laughter from crowd

And after that abysmal joke, she starts her speech about Penn, how its doing now, how the students are, how beautiful the campus was. One of the Alumni sitting from the table next to us orders his 3rd refill for White and i can spot a bearded man seriously about to doze off. Even the 3 other “to-be Penn Freshman” sitting beside me are paying more attention to the menu than the sleep-inducing speech.

I sincerely hope that she was just having a bad day or a hangover… the content she mentioned and the style in which she spoke was so…juvenile

The best one was the Engineering one. I think SEAS hates the DP after all those articles.

Topher28 - no, that was normal for Amy. If she was talking coherently, it may actually have been a good day. I realise public speaking isn’t her only function, and she may be great at her other presidential duties, but the only time I interact with her is through her giving speeches, and she is truly awful.
Shame, because J. Ro was fabulous at this :(

Gutmann is a pretty poor public speaker.

She’s pretty but a terrible speaker…

She’s good at raising funds, but not at public speaking–which is good enough for me…
