I will be staying at my university over the summer break, which is about 10 weeks for a research job. At first I signed up for the university housing. Then I realized that it’s much cheaper to rent a bedroom in an apartment through sublease. This makes me save more than $500. Now, I am basically facing these two options. Option one: a $250/mo bedroom with no roommate in the apartment; option two: a $200/mo bedroom with two females in the apartment, who for some reason are not going home either. I am a guy by the way. These bedrooms are of course separate. I am tempted by the second option. Has anyone ever shared an apartment with the opposite sex who are completely strangers? What’s the experience like? Should I just stick with the more expensive one or find cheaper deal with no female roommate to avoid the complication?

Things could get messy, but things could get rather interesting
It could be a rather fun and unique experience. Besides, they’ll bring friends over and you’ll have access to them :P

I agree with Steve. Especially if they’re hot.

I lived with one girl and a guy last year and it was fine. It’s not like they’re gonna have pajamas parties, don’t get too excited. But it was perfectly normal, as long as you’re not messy, they will be perfectly cool. It was a good experience. I have a few friends who had 2 and 3 girl roommates with no other guys but themselves and they thought it was perfectly normal as well.

I’d say go for it unless you’re currently in a relationship with someone. My last boyfriend currently shares a dorm complex with a couple other guys and four or so girls which he really likes… however, that is why he’s my LAST boyfriend and not my CURRENT boyfriend. If you’re in a relationship with someone, be sure to talk with them about the concept of having a co-ed roommate before you jump into it because otherwise things could get messy.

at least you got your own bedroom to fart in and what not. i’d say it’ll be a good summer

Uhm, I don’t see what’s wrong about that? You’re all people. It’s not like you’re going to have threesomes with each other just because you live under the same roof. o_O

It shouldn’t be too much of a problem, but if it bothers you, remember that it’s only a $50/mo difference and you should do what you’re comfortable with.

I lived in a house with 3 girls and one other guy (I only knew the guy) - really, it’s no big deal.

remember: when living with girls… put the toilet seat down.
