I did email them on Friday morning but did not hear back from them.

Protip: email never works. If you want to get anything done, ever, use a telephone.

email actually works pretty well with them… for both of the emails that I sent their way, I got a response within the hour.

but I do agree that telephone communication is more instant and effective :)

Spoke to them and was told that both accepted and rejected students would be contacted by email.

did they say when?

this week - accepted students would be contacted by the mentors and the others would be contacted by the program administrators.

haha… I was just about to apply when I saw the message from Aurelio Curbelo.
Thanks for the info though!
I have to say I was very scared- I read your post that explicitly stated “others would be contacted by program administrators”, and then I saw an email from an administrator in my inbox-- I was sure it was over! Thank goodness it’s not lol :)

This week? Why can’t they ever do these things on time? I mean, when you expect high school students to fill out something on time, but can’t send out an email yourself … heh.

“reply” not “apply” in the previous post… whoops… I guess I was a little excited lol

so pokm12 - did you get in ?

not sure yet lol. The email was just to say that they were having a hard time getting decisions made so quickly and that we would all know by the 8th. Here, I can copy the content of the email:

Dear Student,

Thanks for your application to the 2011 Iowa State University George Washington Carver Program. We have received numerous phone calls asking for a final answer in regards to the student applications. I have to inform you that we are still working on the applications and waiting for some final selections from the mentors. Please be patience as we are working as fast as we can to provide you with a final answer no later than April 8, 2011. Thanks!

Don’t you love how the first couple of lines are EXACTLY like a rejection letter? I almost died.

i have not got this letter - guess wait till the 8th !

It was just an email…which you probably wouldn’t have gotten because you said it was your son that was applying right? You should ask him about it; he probably got it. It looks like it was sent to all applicants.

No he did not get any email - maybe he did not make it …

Argh. That’s another four days I have to wait in agony.

hmm… maybe he entered his email incorrectly…
chaseholl did you get it?

he entered his email correct in the application - thats how he got a confirmation after he had submitted his application.
No clue why he did not get the email.

hmm i didn’t get it either…

weird… i’m not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing… maybe it has something to do with the fact that I have emailed Aurelio Curbelo before this point. Did anyone else on here get the email?

EDIT: Make sure to check your junk… If you haven’t already. Sometimes important emails slip through my filter.

They probably only emailed so far the people who have poked them for updates.

Let’s all freak out when we check our email at 12:01 a.m. on April 9 and see nothing.
