GWC Internship @ Iowa State 2011

NO results yet! I just called and got Aurelio Curbelo’s voice mail. I left a message asking when the results will be available. We’ll see if he calls back. He has not been answering emails. Very frustrating!

slams head on desk

Again, the hypocrisy–we submitted our applications before the deadline; we expect decision letters on time, as well.

sigh rejected D: I got emailed at 11:30

Sorry for the bad news, ghastly. No news yet for my son. waiting…

rejected at 12:05 PM

Yeah based off of their service over the past two years it seemed like a mediocre program anyway. I’m getting a job and doing research at Carnegie Mellon so that’s better than ISU I guess. Admittedly, the research seemed awesome and I did want to do it.

Rejection '10, '11 at GWC

Rejected; didn’t bother to check the time. Not really sure I wanted to go anyway, due to their one week+ delays without notification–it’s pitiful that CC is the source of much of my information about them.

Ah, well, four more programs to wait for!

Still no email either way. Very annoying. I called again got the voice mail again. He didn’t call back from the earlier message I left. I doubt he will call back on this one either. Very unprofessional.

Has anyone else NOT heard back from them?

Check your spam folder?

Also, that might mean your son was accepted–mentors are supposed to personally email the students they choose, IIRC.

lawl maybe that’s a good thing! They send the rejections letters first, and save the acceptance ones until the end of the day/tomorrow.

Already checked the junk/spam folder. Thanks for thinking of that, chaseholl. It would be nice if he were selected. Not holding my breath, though. He doesn’t fit the diversity criteria and his stats are not stellar. But, they have so little information to go on, that it must be kind of random. I do wonder if they have his correct email, though. He didn’t get the other “we are late and will have them out by april 8th.” email. I sent Mr. Curbelo yet another email asking when they will let him know.

AFAIK, the only people who got the “April 8” email were those who emailed the GWC people first, to inquire about the delay. I never got one of those emails (which were wrong, anyway), as I didn’t email them.

Just Venting…

I just talked to Aurelio Curbelo and apparently they “lost” my son’s application. The first time my son emailed them asking about it, Mr. Curbelo said they received it. Now, he says it isn’t in their database. Why does that not surprise me? He doesn’t know what happened to it other than they had technical difficulties.

Here are the responses that we received from Aurelio Curbelo:
March 15th. “We received your application and it was delivered to the mentors for evaluation. We will be notifying you of their final decision during the first week of April. Thanks!”
AC

April 12th. “Unfortunately your application is not in our database and at this point we are at full capacity. As a result we are no longer receiving applications. Let me know if you have questions. Thanks!”
AC

I’m so very annoyed by the whole process.

Hah, that’s why people shouldn’t use boilerplates blindly. I agree that the process was extremely annoying.

A select few of these projects are crazy good. However, the program directors are racist towards students who do not receive affirmative action.
