I have narrowed my choices to George Washington University and Loyola Marymount University and I am torn between both colleges. I prefer LMU because it is close to home and I have a lot of friends and jobs here that would be hard to leave. On the other hand I think GW would be a really cool experience, but I have a hard time leaving LA. I am going for engineering. Anyone have and advice?
Anyone got any advice?
I’m not familiar with LMU. GWU is a great school, but will have a dfferent vibe than a suburban school. Have you visited GWU?
I am going to visit it in the next couple weeks.
My DD is at LMU and it’s great. She loves it, we love it. Drove around GWU for a visit with my son. Totally different feel…it’s integrated right into the city, no green spaces, no “campus” feel. You’ll definitely be able to tell the difference. From what I can tell in general from classmates of my DD who weren’t sure if they wanted to leave our home state, a lot of them transferred back closer to home after the first year. If you’re not really excited about leaving home and experiencing something new, sounds like your gut is telling you to stay closer to home. But the visit will give you more answers.
Loyola based on your goals and concerns. GW has a great reputation but lmu has some wonderful attributes. But don’t go choose it because of friends dating or local jobs. That would be a mistake. Five years from now you may regret not expanding your horizons. life isn’t a dress rehearsal.
