GWU Transfer Thread 2010

I don’t know how they are sending out the applications, but if they are doing it by when we applied then I should have been the first one to be accepted…or rejected. I turned my transfer application in before Christmas. Now there’s a University back home that I got accepted to that wants to register me for classes for the coming year. They want to do it tomorrow, but I haven’t received anything from GW. I tried the whole GWeb trick and like most of ya’ll, all I could see was the financial aid info, nothing anymore specific than that.

Hello all, I’ve been watching for months, but haven’t posted. One more prior military, got off active duty yesterday. This delay in notifications has really become an inconvenience for me. Since I applied to GW, I have returned from Afghanistan, completed my separations process, and left active duty. Now I need to figure out where I’m going to LIVE. Oh, I spent the better part of seven years as a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman, since someone’s probably going to ask.

I just thought I’d let you know what little I know. I, too, have access to GWeb, though I have received no notification of any kind from the university. I did fill out a FAFSA, but as of last time I checked, there was no specific info under the financial aid tab on GWeb. I have been away from my mailing address for a bit, so I have taken to calling the admissions office for possible updates to the status of my application. I have spoken to the same assistant director of admissions on each occasion. This individual has been quite apologetic, but has been able to give me no decision, as the powers that be have not made one.

I was informed that there were a higher than average number of transfer applicants this year, and the process has been at least as competitive as it has in the past. Probably more so. I’ll say that I had considered my stats to be pretty good, but several people on this forum have them beat. Good work.

I am maintaining hope, but if I call at the end of the week and there is still no decision, I’ll have to start seriously considering my other options.

Yeah, I think they’re definitely not sending out admissions based on when we submitted applications, because I submitted mine literally the day before the deadline…

Anyone? Anything? ANYWHERE??

wow i still haven’t heard

Me neither nothing, absolutely nothing, I am seriously getting frustrated. All my others schools have answered already …@#%@^& !!!

LP where are you? Salahbb? I’m way up in Washington State - I’ll be checking the mail in about an hour, and I’ll post whether I got anything then.

I leave in downtown Washington dc, couple of blocks away from GWU. I applied to Georgetown, AU, Mason and GWU. Mason and AU gave me an answer more than 2 month ago, Georgetown 2 weeks ago, and GWU still nothing. All those universities have as much transfer applicants than GWU but they are apparently more organised. What are your other choices all of you ?

Applied to American - but kind of late, so I haven’t heard back yet.

I am looking at Georgetown’s SCS if I don’t get into GWU. Their application deadline isn’t till August 1st.

In other words…I’m kinda banking on getting into GWU, and I’m a little let down at how long its taken to get word back…

Nothing in the mail.

I am going through these emotional cycles… typically they go (wake up) nervous, (waiting for mail) excited, (check the mail) depressed, (reflecting in the evening) angry

Any empathizers?

I applied to Mason American and GW i got into both mason and american but im waiting for gwu… I got nothing in the mail today either im confused wouldn’t we have them if they sent them last week what is going on? This is getting ridiculous… ps i know what you mean kitncat this waiting is pulling me onto a rollercoaster of emotions I don’t wanna be on right now…

lol I am so with you on this one kitnkat !! but the problem with me is that I cant operate easily when I am under stress, so my day really starts when the mail man comes, and stop the next morning, It’s really horrible. Plus, I am just waitng for this to start my summer vacation. I have already prosponed it two times because of the answer !!

@ WillGW1982, which school did you apply to at AU ?

Still nothing for me either. It’s gotten to the point that I don’t even really expect it when I open my mailbox. I also applied to AU, Mason, and MD and have already heard back from them in March and April. I’m not sure what the hold up is with GW, personally it seems like admissions couldn’t care less that a lot of students are stressing out about the decisions.

I am a biology pre med major so i applied for college of sciences at AU…Heres something i find very strange noone has heard on this forum this week they all heard last week… We are all waiting for this mail and yet everyday each one of us comes up with the same answer… Does anyone find that strange could our packets have been held up somewhere is that possible…

@Salahbb - I understand. Get this - I live in Washington State, my husband has already moved to DC for a great job. I have requested letters of recommendation from my supervisors at my current job, who all support me, but at the same time they need to know when I’m leaving so they can hire a replacement…So I’m stuck in this awkward situation across the country. When/if I get admitted somewhere, it will be a scramble to turn in my notice, get my place packed, move across the country, get set up in our new home (which isn’t available till mid July), sign up for classes, get used to DC and the metro…NONE of which can be done until I know if I’m admitted. Oh yeah - and I need to find a reserve unit that has a space open for a 35F20.

I mean, I love being busy as much as the next person…but this waiting is like ShaunMartin said…the calm before the crazy storm

@WillGW1982 - I thought the same thing. My first worry was that there were 2 batches - acceptances and rejections. Then I pictured this giant bag of mail in a random corner of the admissions office that someone forgot about…I just don’t know. Most of all, I don’t understand why they can’t tell us over the phone. Maybe it has something to do with that freshman admissions snafu? They told a bunch of rejected freshmen that they were admitted…[Admissions gaffe confuses applicants - News](http://media.www.gwhatchet.com/media/storage/paper332/news/2010/02/16/News/Admissions.Gaffe.Confuses.Applicants-3872370.shtml#4)

I live in Silver Spring, Md which is like 20-30 minutes outside of D.C. I called Tuesday and gave the guy my GWID, and he said it was on the way. I go to UMD, College Park, and GWU is the only school I applied to for transfer. Hopefully we’ll hear by Sat!

Hey LP! My husband and I are looking at townhomes and homes for rent up there! Any suggestions on where to look for availability? All the rent.com , apartment.com , move.com , mynewplace.com - SUCK - for house rentals. I straight up don’t trust craigslist…

We are also looking at apartments- preferably a 2/2 for under $2300/ month

We considered buying, but we just aren’t sure we’ll be on the Maryland side of DC for longer than 3 years…

@Kitnkat, I have lived in DC for 4 years,–I grew up and lived in Paris(france) before-and I just love this city. Concerning your housing concerns I think that your husband and you will fine your happiness in the area. There is plenty of choices in MD, Northern Virginia and DC area. I just hope you will be accepted, because as I could see you are in a more stressful situation than me. So best of Luck to you.

To all of you, as I said before in this forum some apologies from the school is necessary more than ever, because this is a serious lack of organisation from them. Some of us have lives to run, some important plans and decision to make based on those letters we are so anxiously waiting for.

This is not right ??, I have been opening my mailbox and checking my email for over a month now!!

Hi everyone,
I don’t mean to upset or excite anyone, but I guess every piece of news helps!
I recieved an e-mail tonight, rather late, 6 or 7ish, from an admissions officer saying that I had not completed enough credits to be considered as a transfer (I’m a freshman). Turns out that my second semester transcript had not found it’s way into my application file, so the officer was gracious enough to accept the e-mail copy that I just forwarded to him.
The important part of this long-winded story is that the admissions officer told me that "all final decisions will be made tomorrow " (aka friday!). So, I’m taking this to mean that we should all recieve decisions some time next week!
I hope this information helps, good luck to everyone with your decisions, and I hope to see you in August!!
Fingers Crossed,
